The Firebase JS SDK currently supports non-persistent offline. So long as you keep the tab open, Firebase works great offline! However, if you go offline and then try to refresh the content, none of it will be persistently stored or accessi

Check out my I/O talk on Friday (Progressive Web Apps on Firebase). While the Firebase Web SDK doesn't support persistent offline just yet, we do have some new ways to get the job done. https://events.google.com/io

Firebase projects are deeply integrated with Google Cloud, so you can spin up backend resources such as Google Cloud Functions, App Engine, and Compute Engine. Using the Node.js server SDK you can watch for changes in the Firebase Database

We already have permanent identifiers for the web...they're called URLs. This seems like a super-unnecessary level of indirection.

I don't even understand the purpose of a video like this. The only thing it tells me is what Magic Leap hopes their tech will some day achieve. Blatantly conceptual and given that it's being released in lieu of in-person presentat

I'm speaking from the experience of a developer who has built numerous public APIs and client libraries over the years. Yes, you still need documentation for a REST API (I'm not a HATEOAS utopian), but you can easily attach your d

It is circular, but that's actually a good thing. It just means that large open platforms (like the web) eventually catch up to proprietary systems. It's a democratizing force. Something that two years ago took an experienced te
