You would have enjoyed the exhibition as there are a couple of Italian gems in there: The Olivetti programma 101 desktop computer, the Olivetti TCV250 Video Display Terminal and a poster for the Arte Programmata (an Italian Kinetic Art move

In italy there is "Canzoni Travisate" (Misheard songs) where somebody subtitles parts of english language songs that could sound like an italian. It's hilarious (to italians..) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

The cannes festival can make any kind of demands it feels like irrelevant of the perceived market. Size of audience is not the only indicator of the value of a film. At the locarno film festival for example they show films who get very limi

WiFi is not exactly ubiquitous and it requires an infrastrucutre which is short range by definition. It's also power hungry. If your use case is to place several sensors in a vineyard without having to replace batteries every day you w

I believe it's possible to have an agreement with sigfox to run a base station. We have it in the office, it's a 1 Rack unti device so it doesn't take a huge amount of space and it has a pretty long range

There is a Shield + Gateway coming out soon , the Lora Alliance will use it as a dev kit. In the summer we'll have a MKR format board. SigFox is good becaue it can deliver now on a lot of use cases

LoRa is in the pipeline but it requires you to either setup your own gateways or join somebody else's network ($$). SigFox is setting up networks globally and this board also comes with geolocation included in the subscription. So if y

Check out https://microsoft.hackster.io/en-US/windowsiot/basic-windows... from microsoft. As I wrote in another comment Serial over USB is not great if you want to contain latency. Something like HID or a custom p

Depends on the protocol they use on the USB connection. Serial over USB has its quirks. Using a Leonardo, a Due or a SAMD21 based Arduino allows you to implement something like HID which should give you better latency

I thought one could consider Arduino a "big open source project" we've been working on open hardware for 11 years and we have millions of users. The big question is : Does open hardware really matter to people? The Raspberry

Are there mature versions of rust for the hundreds of microcontrollers that people are in production right now? Most of them have a decent GCC port and C works on all of them..

you should have read the rest before commenting. This is ideal for embedded targets and C is the best way to write a truly portable library for these small targets. Consider that a lot of embedded code is designed to avoid mallocs() altoget

The Curie is a nice little SOC and it will be available to purchase. If you read the press release associated to the recent internal reorg at Intel they mention IoT as one of their focus markets.

AFAIK The part will be sold through the usual distributors for people to be able to make your own boards.. It wouldn't make any sense for Intel to do all this work and not make the processor available for sale.

Alternatively one could use the Arduino API on the beaglebone with https://github.com/prpplague/Userspace-Arduino It would make the whole thing less scary for beginners and there are tons of examples and documentation

This article describes why hardware is hard but if you were a small company designing a closed-source circuit you'll have the same problems. Being open has the theoretical advantage of having multiple people review your circuit and hel

I'm the author of the blog post. The objective of the post is to ask Kickstarter to provide a more direct way to report either trademark violations or lies (like this guy claiming to be a former manufacturer of Arduino) that might affect th
