That's looking at it backwards---this is a non parametric approach. The author didn't assume a priori that a point with a z score greater than N was anamolous, for some fixed N. Instead, they determined N by looking at the past da

The simple approach in the article is no different if you imagine it as a negative binomial. The article does not assume any distribution, it's entirely nonparametric.

I can't see the full text of the article and most of the abstract is over my head. Is AS mentioned in the paper or are you just hopeful that a similar thing could be developed for AS and other autoinflammitory diseases?

Who are you responding to? Nobody in the article or the comments is advocating for reducing the human population. Besides that, it's obviously not zero sum. Increasing the salmon population does not decrease the human population. Argua

Of course it's not the headline on the rental ad, but that is a factor in what makes a rental property desirable. If you're not taking average utility bills into account when looking for a rental, you should be. Maybe this is more

Wouldn't landlords have the same incentive? By lowering the cost of utilities for their rental property they can increase the share of rent they keep as profit (in the case that utilities are included in rent) or charge more rent, bas

I'm not sure what you mean by my claims. I'm just saying there is a big difference between adding features to the language and adding features to the type system.

The TS devs adding support for more advanced types in tsc doesn't make it any harder for your code to pass type checking. That just depends on (1) how strictly you have configured the type checker and (2) how specific you make your typ

How could typescript be approaching C++ complexity when it's just JS with types? The advanced typing features don't affect the semantics of programs. They just make the type system more expressive so more things can be validated b

Things aren't symetrical because only one of the two underwent acceleration. So one of them was not in an inertial frame of reference. This is a famous paradox, see here for a full discussion/resolution: https://en.wiki

I'd say it's a pretty standard use of the word. Branches are analogous to pointers. If a program changes where the pointer points, it has not mutated any values, besides the pointer itself. (Obviously the branch/pointer itsel
