You’re probably joking but TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a real thing. In which electromagnetic fields are used to stimulate the brain from the outside.

@dang I just read the guidelines and don’t see any mention of how to get your/a mods attention in posts unless you’re referring to “email hn@ycombinator.com”? Is that the proper way?

+1 this! I'm sitting in a cafe, working remotely from Taipei right now. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. There's a large group of hackernews reader types of people here right now who all socialize here since Covi

Just trying to clarify here: you’re saying if someone was exonerated of a violent crime due to newer, overwhelming forensic evidence but had already spent 13years. You’d feel more comfortable working with the actual criminal than the innoce

I don't see how that will economically make sense long term. Burn coal to yield co2 + water + electricity, then use electricity to convert the co2 + water into oil? I assume it's more efficient to directly convert coil to oil: ht

If an animal eats it, wouldn't it be combusting the captured carbon to produce CO2/H20/energy? I don't think you'd want to feed it to anything, but just let it be buried or be pushed under the earth's crust.

I've seen people use UBI to mean "employment insurance" but that's misuse of the term. From wikipedia: "A Basic Income would vary with age, but there would be no other conditions: so everyone of the same age would r

Yeah but with UBI everyone would suddenly have a great source of credit. Who wouldn't loan someone $10k to move at a low interest rate when you know that person by being a US Citizen is receiving $10k/yr.

Yeah that's probably a good bare minimum amount of git knowledge. But I feel like that's making git which can be a super helpful and powerful tool nothing more than a means to an end. Learning the functionality of git can really h

But it's work to prevent armored cars (often diesel) transporting cash. Or potentially large portions of banking and minting systems which as a whole expends plenty of energy. You can't just look at the cost without weighing the b

I really don't think build time is very important. With a separate CI server it doesn't much matter if takes an hour or <10 minutes for a build to complete, the gain for me is that it's no longer "your" time. It&

Most good studies on THC are on adults/ developed brains. I'm not sure it's established yet that marijuana wouldn't cause a "physical" addiction if used in adolescence. It might be / hopefully is fine, but

That's totally true! In this case the child's brain isn't "healthy". Hopefully this works for the child's benefit, and clearly it's a case of a desperate parent grasping for anything that may help. However

I'd advice caution on giving any developing brain cannabis. Although it seems cannabis is fairly harmless in developed brains– there's some evidence it can interfere with development.

I agree that using a pw manager and 2fa is great. But in this particular case couldn't it be a nightmare? You don't have your 2nd factor device (phone) and someone else has access to it and presumably an email account too? I guess

In addition to the other comments, by only needing to write frontend code you can also host your website much cheaper and scalably (via something like amazon S3 & CDN). You'd pay more like several pennies for 100's of users (i
