The problem is that it's easy to do it wrong and the C compiler doesn't help you. RAII prevents you from leaking the resource, but the complaint in the post is that it can be cumbersome to use RAII in C++ if acquisition can fail a

Swift doesn't capture a stack trace in the `Error` object, but Xcode can break when an error is thrown if you set a “Swift Error Breakpoint”, and the debugger will show you the stack trace. Under the hood it just sets breakpoints on th

Swift gained limited support for “typed throws” in Swift 6.0 (2024). https://github.com/swiftlang/swift-evolution/blob/main/propo... I say limited because the compiler doesn't (yet, as of 6.2) perfo

I hate cmake but this is something cmake does well in my experience. I had to write a Godot 4 plugin and Godot has many many header files. I made a project header that #included all the Godot headers, and a single target_precompile_headers

My problem with AppCode was that the syntax of Swift was still undergoing rapid development, and AppCode lagged too far behind. So AppCode wouldn't understand parts of my code unless I avoided the latest (often very valuable) additions

But in Java, a program doesn't have a single static entry point. You can have as many different classes as you want, each with its own static void main, and choose which to use as the entry point when you start up your JVM.

Supposedly this was improved in macOS 14 (Sonoma, late 2023) with "cooperative app activation". It's discussed in this WWDC 2023 video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10054

Lots of older Mac Steam games support 64-bit but show the incompatibility warning in the store anyway. It’s annoying but with Steam’s return policy it’s not a real risk to test such games.

I use CrossOver to play lighter-spec games on my Mac, like Animal Well, Loco Motive, Ori, UFO 50, and The Outer Wilds. I also have a gaming PC but I pretty much only use it for more demanding or super latency-sensitive games like Overwatch

Swift allows an enum to be marked `@frozen`, which is an API (and ABI) stability guarantee that the enum will never gain more cases. Apple uses this quite sparingly in their APIs. Swift also has two versions of a `default` case in switch st
