The Independent is presenting this in a surprisingly sensational and tabloid style. Has the paper changed in recent years? I remember it being a reasonably well respected news source.

It seems to have wasted a lot of the person's time. > I cannot count how many reboots, driver re-installations, kernel modifications there were.

Took the Amtrak across it stoping in a lot of places over 2 months. Most shocking was Memphis. It seemed incredibly poor. A lot of closed businesses and many people on the streets. I live in the Bay Area now and SF Civic Center is still inc

The amount of poverty I saw in the States after coming from the UK was shocking to me. So much money in the country but for people at the bottom it was visibly worse with much more homelessness and visible health problems.

It's an issue of transparency. I don't mind if I know what it will be used for but "sell me some ads" isn't the only thing it's being used for as we have discovered recently. If Facebook et Al. were more transp

The articles you cite seem to support the idea that miners are moving to areas where clean energy is under utilized. I agree with your point about the local issues caused by this. It doesn't refute the idea that miners are using energy

Isn't there an argument that a lot of the mining is done in places where energy is cheap because it is in abundance and would be unused otherwise? Near hydroelectric sources?

"the former are entirely superior to the latter" and that trains have more downside than teleportation is exactly why Stockton wouldn't become as expensive as SF and the analogy is bad in the first place.

My point is that a train is not a teleporter. A train spreads population density over a larger area, with multiple stops and takes more time to move people than an imaginary sci-fi device. The comparison is not fair and pointless. Why not j
