Google "Hindawi journal scam". These guys regularly send me spam soliciting publications, and are most likely a thinly veiled paper factory. I wouldn't trust a thing I read in a Hindawi "journal".

That doesn't really change what MatthewPhillips said. "Framework" can mean everything from Rails to startup.sh that boots up your node process. Express really doesn't do much, and is closer to middleware than a full framework.

Not sure what you're getting at. "Walk" usually means a sequential scan. An index is sorted, so you can binary search.

No kidding. Without details, it really sounds like the author is a bit clueless. He mentions the lack of joins, but doesn't say a word about Mapreduce. "MongoDB needs to walk the index from the beginning to the offset..." You don't "walk an

You should be able to examine that by looking at the MySQL data dump. I save titles as they appear on /newest, indexed by href, so you should be able to see title editing in action.

Why on earth would that be slower in a relational db? That makes no sense, since indices in both nosql and relational dbs are variants of b-trees.

Funny, I just built a HN article catcher that uses Diffbot to collect and classify submissions from the /new page [1]. I've been a Diffbot fan for quite a while now (although their entity recognition/tag classifier needs a bit of work as yo

I might buy a mouse because of the deal, and if the quality is as good as you say, I'll be back in the future for more. But as of now, mice are commodity to me--the coupon helps push me into trying out a "luxury mouse". It's risky but perha

FWIW, it's an inevitable occurrence of cargo cult management, a sort of post-hoc reasoning, and it's not just young CEOs of tiny startups that are prone to it (but immaturity and inexperience do seem to be correlated with this particular br

Check out caolan's async module. It changes how you think about writing nontrivial js.

Perhaps you could enlighten us about these security issues or how any language "plays big data and science". I'm genuinely curious about what you mean by security issues, even though the rest of your comment is bizzarely bitter.

That's the tradeoff, with the crux being that adding more memory for a bit of JIT-compiled bytecode is preferable to having an app that just won't work.

It's quite simple: speed. Javascript engines predating V8 tended to be on the slow side, which discouraged in-browser scripts from being complex or large. As a result, nobody really cared about the JS object model or the flexibility of the

Keep in mind that if you're not an experienced C/C++ coder, you're going to be (largely) benchmarking your relative ability in either language rather than the intrinsic speed of each language.
