I think we have distinguish between UWP as UI toolkit and UWP for as library for system functions. The latter will stay but I am really doubtful about the former. I don't know of any aspect where UWP UI ie better than WPF or Win32 so I

As a long time Windows desktop dev I am horrified to say that Electron looks really attractive as dev platform on Windows :-)

Without a language that wraps the naked COM calls it's truly a nightmare. Using COM from C# is pretty OK and VB6 was great too. C++ is worse. To me COM is like an assembly language for interop that needs to be wrapped with higher langu

How do they expect desktop developers to bet on anything MS does? Since .NET came out they constantly keep changing direction without any cohesive strategy. The server development strategy looks pretty good with MVC and now Core. But deskt

This discussion is getting way out of hand and I really don't like your tone (“humbled” “sociopath” “clueless”) but do you really disagree that as consultant you should be doing what you are hired to do first? If you have been hired to

I guess in my years as consultant I have not met a lot of people who could afford my rates and were clueless at the same time. Maybe I didn’t understand what they were after and what their business situation was but I almost always found ou

We are talking about consultants here. They get hired for a job and are supposed to do it well. I have hired guys to do stuff that would be needed in case another idea didn’t work out. They did a good job and were appreciated for it but th

I agree if it’s very mathy but I have seen operator overloading for things like invoices and orders. That’s just horrible.

Who are you to judge that? Sure make suggestions but in the end we are all adults and are responsible for our actions.

If it's done in good taste overloading is fine. But if abused it makes code totally unreadable and unmaintainable.

And it's also one of the easiest ways to write unmaintainable codes. I once inherited a code where the previous developer seemed to just have found out how cool operator overloading is. So there were a ton of overloads everywhere and y

The drivers want to make enough money so working for Lyft makes sense. It’s pretty simple.

Same here. I get really stressed when I see the same thing under 29 different names with different prices.

Hopefully the branded item will have better quality control. You see that with camera batteries for example. The name brands seem to take the best batteries of a lot and third party sellers then take the ones that are less according to spec

That’s a consideration. But if you phrase it correctly, your part actually succeeded. You are not responsible for the whole company, only for your own part.

You are providing a service in exchange for money. As long as your service is good you have done your part. It’s not your business to decide whether your customers are doing the right thing. It’s up to them to decide what they want do. Mayb

Sell, sell and sell. Hire people. It can be really hard to balance projects if you are alone. Either it’s too much work or too little. Don’t be just a coder. Go to meetings with business people and be part of finding the solution. Doing the
