I would say that you speak of 'cleverness' instead of laziness. If I look at a problem that looks like a ton of tedious work, it is eminently useful to spend time just thinking about the solution. If anything, its an appreciation for elegan

More details on the javascript vm: http://my.opera.com/core/blog/2009/02/04/carakan From my somewhat limited knowledge of such, it seems like they took a fairly similar route as the Webkit guys. (Register based, etc..)

Exactly. The immune system, like the muscles and the brain, can grow stronger with use... This makes sense, but is it true? Without statistically significant evidence to back this up, we don't know for sure if it is true. It could also m

I guess the problem is reasonable to me is not necessarily reasonable to someone else. It still blows my mine that someone could make so much money begging. I haven't read the above posted article, but it still seems unlikely to me that be

In order to make $90,000 begging, you would have to get $250 every day of the year. This seems highly unlikely. I'd say most beggars make more like $20 a day, but I'm just doing armchair science here.

This is exactly why one should always be mindful of what one says here about software one uses. Many of those software developers are lurking here in the shadows and might take offense - Or at least be curious and want to help or correct a

I know that until, say, 3 years ago, I wouldn't know a thing about parsers, and if they boss wanted a scripting language, I would have parsed the whole thing by hand in C. It would have been a total nightmare to maintain (and develop) and w

I've got the following matlab code: eta1=0.7; omega=10; f = @(t) eta1*sin(omega*t) + (1-eta1)*sin(2*omega*t) I can call f(2) and return a scaler value. I could just make a function in a separate document, but then I would

I'm in the process of writing my thesis and one of my advisors asked me: "Who are you writing this for?". I had a few ideas, but I answered, "For him and our collaborators." "Wrong! - You should be writing for the graduate student who will

I use it in class extensively to show students plots of polynomials, and occasionally to find a few roots. Its a great way to get students into using computers to graph functions, etc. I've also used it to integrate some tough hyperbolic si

They pay as much as anybody going to a private school. Many state schools charge just as much for an out of stater. If you are gonna spend that much money, you might as well go to a great school if you can.

The MacRuby guys are doing this as well. (AOT) They are also using LLVM incidentally. What I'm wondering about is how they do AOT for dynamic code. Do they have every possible path for a data type compiled? This would seem silly..maybe LLVM
