The docs seem to indicate you do not store properties on relationships? Is that right? Then why call it a graph database when it is really an RDF store?

Neo4j has control end to end. Cayley storage is handled by other databases. You can say one is a graph database and the other is a graph library on top of another database. Same as Titan now Janus.

Anything Social. Product or Person hierarchies. Network datasets. Ancestry (genetic or data), etc. They are better suited for Graph Databases because the queries tend to be many joins traversing paths both deep and wide.

Anecdote agreeing with the OP. I used to get 10k visitors a month in 2015, that dropped to 7.5k in 2016 and currently get about 5k a month even though the niche I talk about has gotten more and more popular (Neo4j). Nearly all my posts are

The best way I've found is to blog what you learn. There is always somebody who is learning what you are learning and is a day behind you. They will benefit from your "experience" and being able to teach what you just learned

The niche rooms are the best. In my case I get to meet with 45 people who are all extremely knowledgeable about Graphs. We can talk about the heart of the issues we have and the different ways we cope with them. First time I went I felt I h

Got an opportunity to do this recently using a graph mapped on to a K^2 Tree to find out if a relationship existed or not. See https://maxdemarzi.com/2016/12/27/connected-2/

If you are dealing with lots of hierarchical data, then I recommend you take a look at Neo4j (or other graph databases) since they are much better suited for these kind of queries as well as updates at any level and multi parent hierarchies

Did you look at graph databases? Joins over 7 or 8 tables is common.

I hope RethinkDB going out of business does not become the justification to go closed source. At Neo4j we open source both the community and enterprise edition ( https://github.com/neo4j/neo4j/tree/3.1/e

We do this at Neo4j. We charge you for a license to the enterprise edition but the code itself is public and available at https://github.com/neo4j/neo4j/tree/3.1/enterprise

That "normalizes" the risk, but the real world risk is not gaussian. A .com bubble, 9/11, housing crisis, type of event will wipe you out... Seems like every decade we get a one in a million type of event...

"We don't automatically generate a reverse edge" Wait, then you don't actually have relationships as first class citizens? Does every "thing" know what is connected to it? I mean, where do you draw the line b

A trick that worked for me is getting a dog. They keep you on schedule and give you breaks along your day (since they have to eat, go potty and go for walks). Plus they are better than rubber ducks.
