I suppose "the Internet will interpret censorship as damage and route around it" was utopian naivete that got us pretty far, and "the LLM understands me and can help me understand myself" might be naivete it's usefu

I'd be curious to hear more. I presume you're using some kind of semantic search? Any other kinds of semantic technology? What kinds of insights into your journaling has it offered you/users?

Tangentially, I am glad to see this thread again, I was worried the idea was scrapped since I hadn't seen it in the last few months. For whatever it counts for, I like this idea and hope to see it continue.

A parser combinator library. I'm writing a tool that will do static analysis of SQL (in a very limited fashion, it's a build tool and not a static analyzer, but I need to understand dependency relationships between statements). I

This makes sense if the computer was programmed that way accidentally . If the computer is a cut out to create plausible deniability, then reprogramming it won't actually work. The people responsible will find a way to reintroduce a b

The choice and design of algorithm can itself be an aesthetic decision. Eg, OP generated some layouts, and spotted something that wasn't to their taste; the edges frequently overlap. So, we might approach the problem like this: 1. Choo

Without commenting on this subthread (I don't have an opinion), you or anyone else with this concern should look into sticky modifiers (modifiers that apply to the next key press without being held). They were a game changer for me per

I don't mean to make you feel patronized, I wanted to add context because it's a "lucky 10000" sort of phenomenon where the knowledge is so common that it isn't discussed, and people who don't know often aren&#

You're probably not losing out on anything if that's comfortable for you. The primary advantage to me is avoiding context switching between a GUI and terminal mental model. But that probably just doesn't bother you.

A programming language is a good abstraction for interacting with the computer. It's a metaphor for how a computer works. Graphical tools usually provide metaphors for how a certain set of tasks are done. The terminal is a REPL for a p

It's not one or the other. I learned CSS by learning Tailwind and using my IDE's preview feature to see what each class did (as well as reading articles, listening to podcasts, etc, but Tailwind was the foundation of my learning).

That talk had a big impact on my coding style. But citing a 99 line script written as an example for a blog post doesn't really support your argument. 99 lines is short, and verbosity is expected in such example code. Consider FastAPI.
