I'm sorry, but this response isn't nearly racist enough or even patriotic enough (is there a difference anyway?) to be taken seriously.

Maybe people should just stop doing that. I don't disagree, but how do we get there from here? Our "betters" have even had the gall to make this type of change in the recent past, and even to claim "energy efficiency&q

As I understand IPv4+ concept in this article, your router gets address 1.2.3.4 then every device behind it gets 1.2.3.4.0.0.0.1, etc. This is the bit that wasn't in djb's original article AFAIR. My take was that 1.2.3.4 and 1.2

The idea of multiple IPv4+ hosts with the same IPv4 address doesn't come into it at all. (Questions of proxying in its various forms aren't really relevant.) So, to answer your question: it wouldn't.

From what I can see, he also readily admits that IPv4 and IPv4+ hosts cannot talk to each other, or more clearly, we cannot start using the extended address space before almost everybody has IPv4+ capable software. I don't know wheth

Fair question. To me he comes across as remarkably insincere, someone with a history of publishing and saying things no properly skeptical person could take seriously.

Too true, although you could have stopped after the word "writing". :) I quickly decided that the article was full of crap and closed the tab. I only learned that it was written by one of the authors fullest of shit in a world ful

It's become common in Mexico too. I don't know exactly when I first started noticing it, but certainly I've seen it lots in the past year. Most recently an ophthalmologist asking a specialist colleague for a quick second opin

You almost never see foot pedals, oddly enough. Depends on where you are. They're quite common in Mexico although not universal.

As far as I'm aware that phrase isn't anywhere in the US constitution -- just the Declaration of Independence. It doesn't have any legal force. The phrase "el libre desarrollo de la personalidad" however is present

Mexico City once had many canals and it was built over a lake. Today, not much of that is left, save in street names and in Xochimilco.

That's not what I read the GP post as saying though. Rather, that the perl 6 interpreter could run code written as perl 5 (and never ported). With their different semantics, the results would be unpredictable and often undesired.

For all I know you may indeed be a terrible person ;), but this isn't why. The composability of Unix' commands is probably its greatest strength.

it's probably worth it for unicode support alone Yes. I'd probably accept a slightly worse language than python 2 but with reasonable unicode support. Fortunately, there's no need to.

Is hostname, pid, date really enough to avoid collisions? If avoiding them is really important, I don't think you have any choice other than to go the whole hog and basically implement half of Maildir.

Realistically, sadly, it was never going to be a sudden thing. When it does happen, I don't think many people even notice until someone prominent makes noise about it. This isn't the worst possible outcome by any means.

Interesting how the trade group is pushing for more regulation of uber: Interesting, yes. But not at all surprising. Google for "bootleggers and baptists".

I think the pendulum's swung too far in the other direction: a proper mix of theory and practice is self-evidently the way to go--especially when immersion is not feasible--and the only part worth debating is exactly what mix to use. I

I think you were lucky. I definitely had some miserable professors and TAs who were native English speakers. And some professors and TAs with comically bad English but who were good at what they did anyway.
