As Tichy mentioned, there are the offline web apps, basically the application works offline and only uses the internet connection if it is available. It is even possible to have an application almost indistinguishable from a desktop applica

Not exactly. More like the freemium model but with the free part "hidden" for most users.

My feelings exactly, not to mention that when I changed to chrome, Firefox didn't have WebSocket support which I was using for development. (It does now with 4.) The The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy quote was a plus. :)

You are currently watching the end result of a really long time frame of evolution. Lots of species died (that we probably will never know about), some evolutions were dead ends and lots of stuff has gone wrong. All of this to reach this po

One thing most people forget is that we simply don't have much information about the universe. All we know about it is what we can see from our pale blue dot. For all we know the big bang never happened and the reason the galaxies seem to b

I always wonder why people get amazed when someone raises money for their startup. Yes, it is impressive but it would be a lot more impressive if it was "20 Year Old Founder Jessica Mah Gets Over $1 Million In Profit From Her Bootstrap".

Posterous is selling domains for around $25 per year (with discount for more years). I don't believe they make all the money from that though, but I'm sure it helps.

Tell me about it. At work I need to check Firefox too besides IE to see if the app works correctly. Chrome rarely has any problem.

I always wondered about this, how does Google prevent this type of behavior? Like serving specific content to search engines and show other content to users... do they check using camouflaged bots?

I wonder why it shouldn't work on Firefox, the only bottleneck I can see is the canvas. (Websockets can be faked multiple ways.)

Yeah, I always thought that the only way to prevent traffic jams would be to remove the human factor entirely. Makes me wonder why people fight so much against this, I would love to be able to read while going to work (when I don't catch th

Wouldn't be better to have registration optional for syncing? You could still use Read It Later without registering but only on the current platform without syncing. Ps: If you follow this thread of logic then Apple is right, a person doesn

There are many problems with password management software if you want to use it away from your computer, like portability, security and so on. You do have a great (and secure) password management software/hardware, your brain. Of course mem

So you don't like aggressive upselling but don't mind passive upselling so much? The problem here is that it is difficult to know if the user sees value in the product that they are upselling, might as well don't upsell or leave a small inf

Actually, this might be a result of natural selection. The beings that can be in 'the zone' have a higher probability of surviving and so they did. Regarding the 'frames per second', I think just because your brain just hit nitro, it doesn'
