Does anyone know the exact details of what Redis is using to prevent something like this? I think they have a clause saying you can't provide Redis as a Service without paying royalty. It does feel like we go in circles sometimes in te

This reminds me of the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive". Everyone has a publicly visible social score and they can vote their peers based on their interactions. Since it's used for jobs, housing, loans etc. everyone becomes ri

Yeah, I think of it the same way :/ This will likely make hot-desking the norm (already is at plenty of places). On a selfish note, I already have a house in a tech hub, so I'd love for things to go back to how they were pre-covid

Just a quick summary. Trace - One unique id for an "action", say customer purchasing an item. A set of spans exist under a trace. Span - An interval with a start time and duration. Can add tags for querying. Can add logs for riche

Spans are intervals with a start and stop and a set of tags for querying. These can be local or cross-service. I guess the documentation focusses on the "distributed" part of tracing but it works perfectly well for local spans too

I've found that instant messaging works well for that. Or maintaining a design/decisions page for the project if there are multiple stakeholders.

Yes. That's how you login with Google, LinkedIn or your enterprise account.

Would there be confounding variables though? Users who have the app are anyways likely to be the ones who use Reddit more so naturally it has much higher engagement than on a browser.

I hear a lot of complaints about counterfeits in Amazon in the US. But not as many back here in India. I've bought electronics, chairs, phones and appliances without too much hassle. Always with fulfilled by Amazon though. I'm cur

I haven't seen this discussed as much, but I am worried about population rises along with a UBI. Especially amongst poorer communities where extra children are viewed as financial stability. Already with free schooling and meals, there

Interestingly, Visa and MasterCard have huge incentive to facilitate easier payments. UPI has become so easy that I see people using it over credit/debit cards all the time. In India, Visa and MasterCard responded with no-pin-code swip

Is Google Pay new in the rest of the world? It has been very successful in India as a UPI-based payment method. India has gotten aggressively cashless (at least in cities) and Google Pay definitely rode that wave here.

The only other system I can recall is usually for things like sales. Where you have a fixed salary and commission-driven bonuses based on your numbers that quarter. Of course, sales is easier to compare 1:1. And I've always thought tha

Especially with most of us shut at home, I've found kettlebell to be excellent as medium for strength and conditioning. The focus on the posterior chain helped resolve a lot of back issues I had from sitting at a desk all day. I could

Depressingly, the easiest tactic is to keep piling on work, especially on remote workers. The manager won't be able to tell if you're genuinely stuck or slacking off, and the benefit of doubt is likely to go against you if offices

I'm super partial to Joplin. It's open source and you can keep a cloud based backup of your notes in OneDrive or other third-party cloud storage. The notes are all markdown which is exceedingly good for code notes, with the code b

I hadn't heard of the Warring States Period before but after a quick search I see your point. I guess "The Dark Ages" evoked a more universal idea that there was no progress anywhere while the "Warring States" perio

Another reason why it's less fashionable to call it the Dark Ages is that that's a more Western centric look at that time. It was actually an interesting time to be in Asia around then. John Green does an excellent "Crash Cou

I've found that ECS on AWS works great for similar use-cases. I guess it gets more love than EKS on AWS. Seems like EKS is great for people to start looking at AWS without vendor lock-in, but then people switch over to ECS and/or

There is the option to use YouTube Premium though. It's not too expensive (yet), and with the number of cooking and tech videos I'm consuming right now, it seems worth it.
