Matlab is a fine first step for becoming a software developer. I used Matlab in all my courses for Control Systems, Communications Systems, Signal Processing etc. So if Matlab is all you got, then that's great! The toughest part about

In the business world, as in the natural world, either you eat, or get eaten. And you are clearly at the bottom of the food chain. You are best suited to a lifetime of regular employment, not launching a startup. Every man's got to kno

Every engineer, regardless of specialty, learns to write code: At least one semester of C/C++. That's all you need to get started. Learn the rest on your own. As a side note, stop calling yourself non-technical. It's embarras

Sounds to me like you want the knowledge of a Technician, and NOT the knowledge of an Engineer. For a technician's knowledge, pick up a robotics book for hobbyists, and that will get you started. [Please note that I REALLY want to enco

Two ways to look a this problem: Point of View 1: Did you hire this CTO to make your company succeed? If so, then listen to his expertise and move the f * out of the way. Do not interfere with those who understand what they're doing.

As a Computer ENGINEER, I can easily tell you that Computer SCIENCE is essentially a liberal arts degree. Seriously, they don't know s t about technology, unless it comes safely wrapped in an API. And by the way, studying Physics is o

Programming is just the implementation of an algorithm. An algorithm, per se, is meaningless outside of a particular domain. For example, I have implemented standard signal processing and acoustig echo cancellation algorithms, in both C++ a

Uhhhh... clearly I'm not in your target demographic. But as someone whose girlfriend spends hours online browsing for the latest fashion crap, I think you might be on to something.

Agreed. I wish more people would take the time to look at the classic CMOS inverter: Looking at the VIn vs. VOut graph, it is overwhelmingly obvious that the word "digital" refers only to a higher level of abstraction for circuits

"At the physical level, the 1's and 0's are always voltage levels." Let me throw you a curve ball: When we're dealing with DIGITAL logic, we're dealing with DISCRETE (and finite) values of SOMETHING -

I'm happy to say that I'm uniquely qualified to help you. I have a BS in Computer Engineering and a MS in Electrical Engineering, with a specialty in VLSI and microelectronics. While in school, I had to design a microprocessor, o
