interesting solution but for now just turning it off seems to be much preferred. We’ve noticed our kids engage their imaginations and are much better behaved the less time they spend online.

We really struggle with YouTube - for ex. You can’t block it because Kahn Academy uses YouTube. And quite a lot of kids content is really informative and great content. But I can’t tell you how many times we are watching and it literally

If you looked at historical p/e, the low for msft was the last year of ballmer. I think their p/e was 8... it was never a dog stock but an 8 is kind of like what you get if your p&g or coke. It’s not a growth stock anymore.

Besides have you tried moving a modest amount of stuff across the country these days? Unless it’s literally the clothes on your back, $10k is barely enough to move very far.

About ten years ago in some of the rust belt you could buy a house for under twenty - Detroit comes to mind. Some of the sales had conditions that you tear down the structure and agree not to build so that city services could be removed fr

I’m glad you like it. Above article is fascinating - it’s like cows destroy the ecosystem through grazing while bison “engineer” it to make it better to the point they can see bison grazed land from space.

Well I guess I got downvoted because of the implication that you picked up on - “saving them by eating them.” One kind of has to read the book. When you look at efforts to repopulate bison to the prairie, the most famous is Yellowstone.

There’s a really good autobiography called buffalo for the broken heart which chronicles a ranchers quest to switch from a cattle ranch to a buffalo ranch. It really lays out the case for these amazing creatures.

Change your word selection from group to community and your point is more effective. Your point about newton is exactly right and you can see it again in the physicist community that unraveled the secrets of the atom. You can see it again

You are right that it is the style of how you communicate something that matters as well as understanding your place in history. Perhaps Turing resonated and Engelbart didn’t is because of when they spoke. But there’s another aspect to th

Yeah long haul on Amtrak also has this annoying feature where connecting trains are often 1 day apart because the connecting train left an hour before the arriving train gets there. And forget about the cost. I’m about to fly to the west

Agreed - I used to take NY to Baltimore a few times a month. Typically I had a few co workers with me. So let’s do the math: if we shared a car and left at 8:30, we’d spend .. what $30 in tolls round trip? Another $50 in gas..one of us w

Short run regional doesn’t have to be Amtrak’s mandate when there are plenty of feeder lines like NJT and Septa able to step in. The problem is not rail vs road. The problem is that rail becomes a sinkhole for public fantasyland spending.

I’ve heard this referred to as programmers syndrome. The tight hamstrings also lead to frequent lower back pain as does the lack of movement. It takes as little as 15 minutes of sitting for your spinal discs to compress. Moving your legs

I’d agree with this. All the action in a house happens in the basement. It’s here where you see the mechanicals and all the wiring and plumbing decisions. It’s where you see if there’s water or radon leaks or structural issues. And it’s

I never thought of that.. you know another way Reno’s are like software... you often have to debug other people’s work. Simple example, in one house there were wide door jams that met in the middle of the top of the door frame. Why would
