I still remember the day my father pulled me aside and told me in secret (my mom would have freaked out) that we couldn't really afford college. He recommended that I stayed close to home and to go to a local school, which I did for 4+

Something similar happened to me years ago. I later learned the hiring manager had left. But when they contacted me, I had already moved on.

You sound a lot like programmers I constantly run in to who claim to have 10+ years of experience and rate themselves a 10 out of 10 on everything known to man. But yet can't land a full time job and just coast from freelance to freela

I get this a lot. I have a Masters and several minors in nothing but Liberal Arts. But I work in CS at a fairly high level. It just blows people mind who have a hard time seeing how they can possibly ever relate to one another. To me they&#

Most of the well known companies in SF are not necessarily tech companies. They make small apps, games, or websites. Some of the companies include Zynga, Twitter, Salesforce, PG&E, Firefox and many of them do not offer $200K for mid-lev

I've never seen base salaries in the Bay Area at $140-$160k. It's more along the lines of $120k-140k on average for well known companies. The ones you've never heard of barely crack $120K.

You're doing it now by posting! I think in some ways most engineers are a little introverted. Sometimes you just have to muster up the energy to start a conversation. Find people you're comfortable with and go from there.
