I'm one of the paper authors. That's a great summary. Thanks! We're hopeful that this new algorithm already makes PwD practical enough for many use cases, and we have significant further improvements in progress. Stay tuned!

It's in my talks, but not yet in a paper. I'm just about done writing a blog post on this topic too.

Olin (my advisor) deserved tenure on his strength as a teacher alone. (If tenure were awarded on such things anyway.) He also founded the entire field of static analysis for higher-order languages (like Scheme, Python and Haskell). His lo

Perhaps you didn't read the full reply before commenting: http://matt.might.net/articles/tenure/#addendum Maybe you don't consider founding and running a 501(c)(3) non-profit like http://NGLY1

As principal investigator for three of the listed DARPA projects (APAC, CRASH, STAC), I have to say that DARPA is by far my favorite research agency to work with. Every DARPA project I've worked on goes through the same three phases: 1

Slides will be online, but I don't have plans to video record the lectures. A reasonable amount of the course material is in blog posts, and I add more posts each semester.

It stands from semester to semester. Typically, I create a fresh ubuntu server at the start of each semester, and I let it go unpatched for the duration of the semester.

At the moment, you'd have to enroll at the University of Utah. I might put the course online some day, but lectures are extremely interactive. I'm not sure how well they'll translate to an online format.

I'll be updating the article at some point to add miniKanren. Will Byrd is my postdoc, and he's been pushing relational/logic programming with miniKanren: http://minikanren.org/ If you haven't seen miniK

Thanks for the kind words. The comment on jq (which I'd never seen) had me thinking about the relational shell programming again. One could implement a remarkably robust relational DB at the shell with jq.

You may want to check out LineaGen: http://www.lineagen.com/ It's cheaper than sequencing, and more importantly, they actually know what to do with the data once they have it. Getting your sequencing data is becoming c

CF has popped up more than once when looking at treatments for NGLY1. In fact, the first ever treatment we tested in the lab was a read-through compound often used to treat some forms of CF: gentamycin. It didn't work for Bertrand, but
