Try out http://publicsuffix.org/ - that plus a custom suffix list of overrides works wonders!

Turntable was fun for the first couple of days, but it lost its novelty too quickly (all the channels feel like the same old dubstep or mashup stations). They pretty desperately need a better discovery ui.

It's actually rounded up to complete hours, so 10 instances for a minute is 10x the price of 1 instance for 10 minutes. For fast iterative development this isn't an issue - you can re-use the job flow (the instances you spun up), so you can

This looks awesome - but I'm curious to see how much overlap this will have with the new stuff in iOS 5 (cloud storage etc.).

Queens / Brooklyn (other than Williamsburg) can be orders of magnitude cheaper than Manhattan. Colma / South SF / Oakland are probably 30% cheaper than SF. Still cheaper, but not overwhelmingly so.

This doesn't make any sense. Android IS linux, but only at the lowest level. Given their logic, I'm surprised they're not launching FreeBSD support, cause, you know, iOS runs darwin, which has a bsd subsystem. That being said, re-focusing o

And this is why I'm glad I never use RescueTime. This can't possibly help a job seeker - at best, you confirm that you're looking at the right things. At worst, it's an easy reason for a recruiter to pass you over.

I enjoy using mongo / other document stores, but this article is lame. The contrast is between a single document storing an order, with sub-documents containing details, versus a table per sub-doc type. They claim you have to denormalize da

I've used protovis for an internal graphing framework. It's absolutely, positively, 100% the best visualization tool for the web. The syntax is easy to work with (once you get over the initial learning curve, which is somewhat steep), and i

I think they read the totally wrong thing from this data. People move to Portland, Austin, or Seattle due to the much higher perceived quality of life. Low taxes are nice, but that's really just a side benefit.

Objective-C is C plus brackets and a recv message function. Everything else is built up on that. You can very easily use c libraries in iPhone / iPad development. Maybe this is true on android, but iPhone is a great platform for c programme

If a spammer wanted to see what a site took down, all they'd have to do would be to keep track of all the comments (including ones not by their accounts). Then they'd have some idea how the filter worked. If you make the list open then hone

Aren't all palm phones potential dev phones? I recall you just have to do a konami style code to flip it into dev mode (it's described in the palm sdk)

This is stupid. The thing that makes python so good is that it has a rock-solid, extensive standard library. I'm all for separating it internally so it's easier for pypy/jython/ironpython to reuse and contribute, but don't make us rely on t

I think this attests more to the dangers of early tracking in European societies (didn't take the right tests in high school? You're never going to college) than the benefits of education as access to knowledge. In the us, taking classes li
