For anyone thinking about watching: the presentation is incredibly good. The name is kinda misleading -- they talk more about modern x86 architecture and actual numbers of various algorithms than the lock free algorithms themselves. Both of

At some point when they were a few meters away, the NASA video mentioned the Dragon was now "free floating". So, I think they were continuously gently firing the thrusters to maintain orbit until they got extremely close.

Every RuggedCom device starts with 00-0A-DC ( http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/?string=ruggedcom ). Even without the MAC, you really only have to search 2^24 possible passwords. And that's assuming they randomize their mac allocations.

It makes sense to me. The language is designed to be as small as possible.. everything else can be built from macros or reader macros. There's not too much in the actual language itself: http://clojure.org/special_forms

They're just adding more default literals to the language. Clojure already has strings "like this", characters \l \i \k \e \t \h \i \s, numbers 1234, regex #".*". Now you can have dates, times, or presumably some other literal that's applic

Reminds me of one of my favorite all time John Carmack tweets: "Sometimes, the elegant implementation is just a function. Not a method. Not a class. Not a framework. Just a function." https://twitter.com/#!/ID_AA_Carmack/status/53512300451

Not exactly. Some function expecting a c-string could actually read too short. What happens is some attacker sends a message using a channel/format that specifies a length and a buffer. But, the buffer contains a "\0". For example, (10, "wt

I may be misinterpreting the patch, but it seems like this is a NULL byte injection vulnerability, all stemming from '\0' termination in C-strings. I wonder if length-buffer pairs are more practical when security is a consideration? Similar

I wonder how much of the server aspect is reduced with the existence of parse.com. You still have to build your model, but I would imagine a lot of the server setup and "data format" concerns are no longer valid.

Agreed. I think commuting by bike on trails, small streets, or separated from traffic is must less stressful than biking on a busy street. Even taking a bus is a bit more stressful than driving (for me) because the buses are so infrequent.

This is even more amazing, because the people know they're not being watched. I wonder how ingrained the image of eyes is? Could you achieve the same effect with a picture of a CCTV camera?

In C, the array as a function parameter is different from an array as a variable/struct member. So, as a parameter, sizeof(x) is sizeof(int*). As a variable, sizeof(x) is sizeof(int[5]).

Or, not to be confused with: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> void foo(int x[5]) { printf("%p\n", x); printf("%p\n", x+1); printf("%p\n", &x); printf("%

They really should be listing these answers in terms of sizeof(int) instead of assuming all 64-bit platforms have sizeof(int) == 4. Pointers are confusing in C, but so is the common assumption that sizeof(int) is always 4.

The ring buffer is a nice trick, but it only works on array sizes that are a multiple of 2. The generalized version would be "array[i++ % ARRAY_SIZE] = data". If ARRAY_SIZE happens to be a multiple of two, I'm sure most compilers would opti

I use lsof a lot in combination with strace. E.g. lsof -p some_process tells you that fd 9 is the socket you're interested in. Then you can run something like strace -e read=9 to see all the reads on that socket.

I really like your "clarity over cleverness" rule. It seems to incorporate so many good practices: premature optimization, over-design/second system syndrome, and doing the most obvious thing.

This article skips over CTR mode which is gaining popularity. It has nice properties like parallel enc/dec, no padding requirement, seek to any block, and the ability to lose blocks. AES 128 CTR is the default cipher suite in the SRTP stand
