But I can't really get behind the author's stance that it is wrong for people to have preferences (even strong ones) about which javascript frameworks they like to use. Exactly. As a developer, I can appreciate that every framework has di

I'm not sure if this is something that could be helped with some doc changes, but it took me awhile to figure out that pubsub is exactly what Backbone.Events gives you. And even then, I only figured that out from reading tbranyen's code.

I clicked into this thread specifically to see if someone had cheekily added emacs as an option. Color me disappointed. ;)

This. I worked in DC at a PAC for 3 years, and I can confirm that, without a doubt, lawmakers in Washington vote where either a) the money leads or b) the most ruckus gets stirred up, at least 90% of the time. Every congressperson has their

Right, I understand that. But it seems irresponsible to suggest - as I think this site does - that the entirety of AWS has the uptime you're advertising.

How on earth is this number actually being calculated? I'm an AWS customer and all of my ec2 EBS instances are up and running - and that's in us-east-1b, which is IIRC where this outage occurred.

IMHO, it's not. I'm working on a few relatively complex web apps where the CSS download time don't come to anywhere near that size. In my world (mobile devices, in particular) 320k would be totally unacceptable. 100k is about the point wher

I don't wholly disagree with you, but Python developers are more prone than most to name their packages with at least a py prefix, if not something punny like this.

I'm a bit late in responding, but yes, it's a native vim extension. To make sure your plugins are loaded automatically, put filetype plugin on in your .vimrc.

Or, if you only want to use these settings for python files, create a ~/.vim/ftplugin/python.vim file. Mine looks like this: setlocal tabstop=4 setlocal softtabstop=4 setlocal shiftwidth=4 setlocal textwidth=80 setlocal smarttab

I would also love to know how you do this. I like being a good irc citizen, and I'm always forgetting to set my status. [edit: see here - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1781074 ]

Thirded(? Sorry, that's probably a bit too reddit-ish for HN.) I've been developing with Django for the last two years (a screencast series by ericflo is actually what got me started), and I just recently started work on a major Flask proje

maybe Wordpress themes are much different than normal themes, and are much more tightly coupled? They can be made to be tightly coupled, but they're not necessarily intended to be. A lot of themes override core WordPress functions via a f

Python, for one, doesn't help to make the matter any clearer. In fact, Python makes it look like pass-by-reference is used, even when it isn't. For a better explanation than I could ever come up with: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9

One usability detail you might consider: I like how you follow HN's lead and make read content headlines a lighter gray. But there's no corresponding effect for the screenshot slides. That definitely reduces the usefulness of the read state

I have a lot of respect for Pownce. I had an account, even if I didn't use it as much as Twitter, and I was really disappointed when they closed down. So I want to be excited about this, but I find the "community microblogging" idea reall
