Is it possible for a WordPress instance to participate directly in the fediverse? i.e. Establishing its own identity for other users to follow directly?

Read the whole article. The author describes how he takes immutable filesystem snapshots.

qmail was the first codebase I read that blew a lot of assumptions I had about "good code" and "clean design" out of the water. It went its own way on a lot of things compared to GNU projects and achieved an enormous l

Odds on Adobe making Ivan "an offer he can't refuse" then? They don't stand faster-moving competition for long, I hear.

I'm copying a 4GB root filesystem (on ext4!) per connection, so that's a couple of seconds, more like 10s on my laptop. The boot time for the kernel is about 2s to userspace initialisation. Then the userspace is running node.js t

I wrote a system at work that does this for VS Code instances - on a commodity server and not much optimisation effort it goes from a click to the UI starting to appear in about 10s (mostly thank you to Firecracker and Alpine) . There'

https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/ says it'll reject where it won't break the web site. But it's called "I don't care" not "I never want" cookies :)

DDs can always be reversed on the account holder's instruction. But yes, they're just the transfer service of last resort for me.

Not sure about the US but penalty clauses aren't valid in UK law. You can only charge for what you might lose as a result of a breach of contract. I can't imagine how PayPal would incur $2500 costs as a result of someone buying a

I work exactly as this article describes, but 25 hours per week. It feels like I am doing the productive 25 hours of a 37 hour work week. I log my hours pretty accurately, which I think makes it a better deal for my employer - no commuting

Yup I did this at my last business in 2008; instead of changing payment processors we abstracted them away behind a pretty small API that also stored and charged card numbers. We could flip back and forth between two. PCI DSS gradually beca

If we're regulating, why not demand "closed" accounts must redirect to another email for 12 months? That would guarantee users could move their identity over a reasonable period while removing storage and support requirements

I would get rid of the billing_rate table or at least copy its contents into billing_account - nothing good can come of changing that reference! Also consider how you will build invoicing on top of this - i.e. A monthly PDF that covers (for

This is why my old hosting company changed its auto disconnection code to work at 11am on a Monday morning, never at a weekend. That way it's the bill-payers that notice and get in touch, not the poor tech on the out-of-hours rota. Als

A reasonable (& previously common) defence against this was an IT-provided VPN setup, with a certificate. My old company didn't put employee endpoints on the public internet, so they couldn't be exploited without a working VPN
