In all honesty most countries in europe have at least one airport in a city centre. I mean look at lisbon, RKV, BHD/LCY (even glasgow,LHR to some extent), BMA, NCE.

Well, is "a ton" a level that can fit in a dedicated server or many? Just looking at https://serversearcher.com you've got 72TB of storage on 10Gb pipe for $360 or so a month: 128 GB RAM 6c/12t E-2276G 2X

Not exactly like for like, but if you checkout comparison sites like https://serversearcher.com there are options that come close, like $6 for 4GB/2cores in many US locations.

One way of solving for this is to just use K3s or even just plain docker. It is then just kuberneters/containers and you can hire alot of people who understand that.

I mean there are many places that sell multi AZ, hourly billed VPS/Bare Metal/GPU at a fraction of the cost of AWS. I would personally have an account at one of those places and back up to there with everything ready to spin up

Right now it supports rack layouts, fibre and power cables, and topology building with drag-and-drop editing. I will probably end up adding splice management/ODF/closures too but curious what others would find useful.

I'm sure you're right (equally there's other exceptions) it was just the first ex-ploy that jumped to the top of my mind. The theme is true though.

I think that's a bit of an oversimplification to be fair, pretty much all of our "traditional" universities are absolutely capable of standing on their feet without international students, I mean if you look at the assets of

You normally want to document the actual links between switch ports rather than just static labelling. E.g visually https://react-networks-example-site.vercel.app/

You've still had to buy a proprietary system, it just happens to run locally? Not really much better is it.

You would normally put CCTV on its own vlan for this reason.

RDS/managed database is extremely nice I will admit, otherwise I agree. Similarly s3, if you're going to do object storage, then running minio or whatever locally is probably not cheaper overall than R2 or similar.

You put your staging env in the same (kind of) place you put your prod system because you need to replicate your prod environment as faithfully as possible. You also then get to re-use your deployment code.

I bet there's a big "burns through our SSDs faster" spreadsheet column or similar that caused it to be disabled.

Just for context EC2 typically uses network storage that, for obvious reasons, often has fairly rubbish latency and performance characteristics. Swap works fine if you have local storage, though obviously it burns through your SSD/NVME

It's essentially the same product, but you do get lower disk latency. Best performance is always going to be a dedicated server which in the US seem to start around $80-100/month (just checking on serversearcher.com), DO and so on

Yeah no dedicated severs in the US sadly. I'm not aware of anyone who can quite match hetzners pricing in the US (but if someone does I'd love to know!). https://www.serversearcher.com throws up clouvider and latitiude

I think they're great but it's unfortunate they don't have more locations which would at least enable you to spin VMs up in different locations during a shortage. If you rely on them it might be wise to have a second cloud pr

Yeah, but automating a solution for all possible "one off subtle data corruption bugs" is a lot of energy and effort to be honest.

Depends on the gpu you need honestly. Maybe worth checking out https://www.serversearcher.com/servers/gpu and other comparison sites?

clouvider and latitude look like decent pricing on https://www.serversearcher.com/ I know phoenixnap exists as well.
