Hm? We sync our calendars using Nextcloud, but admittedly, that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Starlink promises 350 Mb/s, not MB/s, although given their current promises vs actual speeds, I think customers may adjust their expectations a bit. Not sure where you pulled 30 Mb/s for Viasat service but it regularly tests

I regularly videoconference with team members who are on geostationary Viasat..., it's just not an issue. They say they had to learn how to adapt a little bit by giving people time to finish their thoughts, that's about it.

I've done paid work on an airplane WiFi connection through Viasat and really did not find the latency to be an issue at all, including working in the terminal. No doubt everyone has different experiences and tolerance levels for latenc

I don't have any sympathy for CERN and neither do they have any for their employees. The people that run CERN are entirely focused on a particular path of scientific progress and their handling of the situation will only change if they

I'm not sure this is much of a counterbalance? I think you can generally expect junior positions to have less responsibility and stress, at the expense of virtually no chance of moving up unless you really, really grind, and even then,

Yeah, you got a great deal. I've been hearing this story at least since I worked there, about 15 years ago.

Maybe I should've been clearer, but I didn't mean personal effects at work. The people I knew had not even unpacked their things in the apartments they were renting because they were too busy working, particularly professors. And

It's interesting to see this from CERN, which is essentially an institution that enables young people to work unlimited hours for next to no pay and virtually no chance of ever attaining significant recognition of their work. In my bri

In line with the other comments, let me give you a recent example from my work. We had a dataset with just about 30 records and about twice as many features, about 1:3 class balance between positive and negative. Not an impossible situation

I look forward to seeing what will be able to beat AWS in the long run. I don't know what it could be. I guess, maybe, if they stop innovating in the space others will catch up and then price will become the differentiator? Idk, right

Could you expand a bit about what kind of information class imbalance can reveal?

I have this same mindset and the same plan: Keep working, and keep learning. Do you have any insight from your many decades of experience that you would like to share? I would appreciate it.

About that last point, Redfin has access to the regional MLSs. I imagine they have a more complete dataset. My understanding is that Zillow relies on realtors to add their listings, so that means, maybe-it-happens, maybe-it-doesn't, en

It's unclear to me how much visibility Zillow really had, since, AFAIK, they don't have access to MLSs in the areas where they buy and sell.

Just like any other complex, tightly-integrated system, systemd had its share of bugs, quirks, and new ways of doing things that forced people to change. It's not hard to imagine why it faced some resistance. Eh, it's been a while
