I support FoundationDB's approach to databases which is basically provide a consistent, distributed, and ordered Key-Value store then you can build whatever type of database you need on top of it whether that's RDBMS, Document, G

You're probably write about writing your own authentication layer but it still shouldn't be part of CouchDB or PouchDB. A better solution is for some OSS project to build a standard proxy that applies the document level authorizat

That all makes sense and I think you guys are absolutely doing the right things for what's available to you. I've dealt with the woes of making something relatively straightforward with the Gmail API and having to include a whole

I like the clear incentives i.e. to convert users to $1/month subscription rather than a free service that mines data. However, the "cant read your emails" part is somewhat misleading. Slimbox is still storing and processing

This is sweet. If you're interested, I'd be happy to help out with your todo to integrate with a local database. Getting the rate-limiting and retries right can be a little tricky but it's been on my list to add Gmail support

This is really cool. I dig the API and mechanisms to exchange data. I've been working on a DBaaS (like Firebase) that works via message passing between users and now I'm thinking Scuttlebot could be great tool to integrate with it

I wish there were a userscript equivalent for API's. e.g. someone could make and share a script to get flight details from the Gmail API. The advantage would be that I could run the script rather than give an oauth token to a third p

Hi HN! I am building a Firebase alternative that has user management (creation, permissions, etc) baked in. It's great for if you just want to store data to each users profiles or want to let your users exchange data without having to

I like how this couples descriptions with actions and state. It seems like a friendlier version of Redux. One nitpick I have is the naming. I think `useBehavior` is more informative than `useTree` in the react examples. The same goes for th

I agree. I think one of the more interesting approaches to solve this particular problem as well as private companies staying private too long is the Long Term Stock Exchange. I don't know a lot about it but from my understanding, it a

I'm working on a CLI to download and index from any API like Spotify, Gmail, etc. It puts all of your data in a single database that you can query. There currently aren't many integrations but it's really easy to make plugins

I definitely agree with this sentiment but I think rather than reinvent the wheel we should be applying current web standards to users instead of businesses. If every user had their own static IP, sever, and SSL Cert, database, DNS entry, e

I agree but I think just having your own VM in the cloud solves this. If each user has their own IP then you can basically get E2E encryption between users with SSL so you don't need to worry about encryption as a developer or user. I
