But you have to write them before using. It's not needed in case of the discussed feature.

100% right code completion, call hierarchy, navigations, accurate safe refactorings. True, it is possible to use reflection (kind of metaprogramming) to call a method in Java too, but it's done sporadically because of various reasons.

Yes, JetBrains IDE's for dynamically typed languages are pretty nice, but what they allow is still nothing compared what Intellij IDEA does for Java. And I'm saying this as a fan of Clojure which is not statically typed.

The things you could do in Go vs in (Python | Ruby) are actually are results of difference between static vs dynamic typing. Yeah, static typing requires more key presses and some thinking, but in the case of tools (navigation, refactoring)

For a powerful language with very good support of compilation to JS - you can try ClojureScript.

For example - ports other than 443 and 80 are more often blocked.

https://mitmproxy.org/ Works on all major os-es, although it may be bit harder to setup. Also handles transparent SSL interception.

How about .. have one db with log of events (cqrs style), the other one is transactional and transactions are being performed based on ordered events. When deploying new version - backup the transactional db and keep a pointer to the last e

One reason is compatibility - it can be encoded to json and thus is handled by http proxies, etc. It is also human readable in encoded form.

I'm not Common Lisper, but actually CL distribution is trivial compared to JVM (for user applications, not servers). It's possible to create native executables, which don't need any frameworks to exist on the target systems.

Regarding allowed changes in implementation: If user behaviour doesn't change - why changes in implementation are wrong? Reimplementations can use the source code at one place in time and use that as a reference.

In the second story: The scribe showed that source code may be too detailed, but at the same time he showed that past view of the system will not accurate now if not updated constantly. Which is the point I'm making.

That's because if the code is over some quality level (which can be measured with bugs count) then the source itself is implementation documentation. And systemd contains the more classic documentation of its behaviour for its end user

Who needs calculators? The same can be done "by hands". But the problem with that is that doing it many times is error prone. Why not let it be solved once for good?

Even if it's undocumented (as far as I know it is well documented), at least this code is in one place.

When it's done, you will have the value in orders variable. If you can do something with it - just do it in new line in the same scope. You can also use catch exceptions using standard try catch block.

What do you mean by refactoring? Automated tools to do that? Why would manual refactoring be better than let's say in more dynamic languages?

Well, maybe it's true that one has to rewrite the basic components for React. But then - it is one of rare "frameworks" where the components can be really isolated from themselves and compose at the same time.
