You are oncall on your team's services. No matter how old those are. The frequency depends on your team size, and the level of tickets/incidents depend on the quality of the codebase. I have seen everything from one high sev ticke

That depends on the team/org you are, if you are in some cosy team in CDO, that just maintain a couple of services that other internal services use, that aren't really that important, then of course is not toxic. Talk to the folks

That's exactly my position, in my case my team is fully remote (a niche little team in AWS), I am not sure if I want to buy a place where I live either, a team reorg, or leadership change can destroy my life plans in a minute. I think

I get were you are coming from, but what I'm trying to say is: when someone considered evil by us (in the west) dies, would you hold the same standards? I respect what you do, and I know is super hard. I don't mean to be toxic or

This is pretty off brand for HN, really. Even if you don't agree, that doesn't make it "flamebait" , the queen also was fine with sending Alan Turing to jail for being gay, I can find many other things along those lines.

If you understand how Cuba works, you will get why this is the same as funding the government, not the people. The blockade in Cuba is more internal than external. There is plenty of resources online that shows the human rights violations,

@yegg Even if you don't agree with one side, you can't consider the side to be "spam", "disinformation" or "propaganda" and hope people will just be OK with that. What is spam to you, is useful inform

Can you imagine if they start putting ("privacy friendly" ads) in VSCode's side bar? I think people will complain for a little bit, and just accepted, they would probably pay a couple of Youtube Tech influencer like Google is

In my first job, the company laid off 200 people, and they found out when they couldn't use their badge to enter the building. Corporations love to do that type of things.

I agree, on the startup side, the only "brilliant" player is the founder(s), and they just need people to pump code, do marketing, etc... non-stop, because "they believe on the mission". I don't like the Leetcode in

I think the 10x thing is about perception, I worked with Principal Engineers at AWS who designed products used by millions, and now similarly at Google, and they just have a ton of experience in a niche area and can leverage that well, wit

Maybe, but that's very unlikely. Usually FAANG workers (I'm one myself) if they are young will move to new hot startups in the hopes of a big pay off at IPO time, or if they are older ,then will take a small pay cut for better WLB
