On the top of the home page they have a category control that lets you look for different genres of stuff from your algorithm plus a "new to you" category. I think that's supposed to be what you're after. I hardly ever u

Yeah. They seem to have had problems recently with some very obvious spam bots, but other than that the quality is alright. On some niche nerd channels the comments are often exceptional and informative. Usually they're at least pleasa

I'm glad that the home page is semi-stable because I'll often click on a video and then go back and want to queue up another that looked interesting but if it were gone it might be hard to find again. (Yes there are strategies to

I'm going to go against the grain here and say my YouTube algorithm is great. Signing out of YouTube and viewing the default home page is a reminder of the horrors that lie beyond, but my little corner of it is a bit too good. There

I'm assuming the vast majority of that benefit is just from the X3D chips having a lower stock TDP. You could achieve the same efficiency by just reducing the 7950X TDP to 120W in BIOS or Ryzen Master.

It's a pretty similar shape of problem to NUMA, which servers have managed for quite some time. (Perhaps more similar to big.LITTLE which is not so common in servers but Linux should have decent support for from ARM SoCs) Its a bit of

I thought I remembered benchmarks from when the 5800X3D came out showing it was good at code compilation but that is, at the very least, not always true. https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-ryzen9-7950x3d-linux/13

I spent a long time afraid of making switching regulators because I heard so much about how complicated they are, failure modes, EMI problems, etc. But when I got over that I never had any problems just reading and following the datasheet r

If paying back loans is suffering then loans should just be illegal. Why allow people to enter into contracts that are apparently unconscionable?

The worst part about tantalums is their tendency to catch fire if you look at them wrong.

I did a bit of looking. Phone lines, at least western ones, did provide 50VDC. Some rural loops used range extenders at 100 or 130VDC. They also applied 20Hz 90~150VAC to ring the phone. So those could be DC blocking capacitors for the sign

Those are almost certainly capacitors. They look like metallized plastic film capacitors, though they could be strange-looking communist electrolytic or something else. Film capacitors are non-polarized, and are available with high voltage

The 14TB HGST Ultrastar DC HC530 drives I bought in server builds eighteen months ago (delivered one year ago) have gone down from $330 to $200 in that time period. Pretty amazing. 16-20TB drives are starting to lose their premium as well[0

Are the silver axial capacitors in the handset (near the C2 designator) wet tantalum slugs? Or do they just look similar. It's always weird looking at communist electronics because their components are like an entirely different ecosys
