Doesn't look like anyone's mentioned another unique feature of a BSD: every OpenBSD release comes on a CD with funky artwork, stickers, and an original song. See http://openbsd.org/art1.html and http://openbsd.org/lyrics.html for more.

I dip my toes into IRC now and again, but keep getting frustrated by the learning curve. Yes, I get the basics of joining channels and chatting. I can see that there's a ton of efficiencies IRC power users have figured out that I haven't. A

This criticism misses the Volt's unique powertrain configuration. Trips under 40 miles are all on battery power, so the average commuter uses no gas doing their daily business. However, unlike an EV, you can hop in the same car & drive

You piqued my curiosity, never having tried Clojure. My time from 0 to getting (the correct!) result of (+2 2) from Clojure's REPL was approximately 60 seconds. Pretty simple.

Funny, his review of the Nikon D40 ( http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm ) helped convince me to take the plunge into DSLR land. He does rail against much of the conventional wisdom, eg. more megapixels is better -- perhaps this is the

Plenty of sites use URLs like http://example.com/sd8n9g9g rather than require logins for private / semi-private material. What's wrong with that?

to play devil's advocate, what you'd need to know to parse that paragraph was covered by my CS 102 class. So you'd only need to have taken a couple classes, rather than majored in the subject.

No idea what "extraordinary" means to you, but the scenarios reported in Peter Singer's recent book on military robotics, Wired for War, represent some potentially huge shifts. They may not "improve our lives" though.

Have been wondering the same thing myself, and opened up an identi.ca account to see what it's like. Nobody I know uses it yet but there are a good number of Free Software and Android oriented users.

I agree that this is a minor annoyance, but your local hardware store probably has one available for $5. In other words, it's still orders of magnitude better than replacing the HD in, say, an iBook.
