This would make a fascinating study of reliability - can you determine statistically if a product will be reliable based on rating distribution. You could study Amazon, App Store ratings, etc. Cool insight!

ASICminer (disclosure: I own shares in ASICminer) is shipping smaller miners, powered only by USB. Their larger miners aren't shipping yet in large numbers either. I agree, at some point this'll be a race to the bottom.

Note: this is chip orders of 10,000+ only. Avalon shipped stand-alone Bitcoin miners (each with several hundred chips in them) several months ago.

I do like the concept, and it makes an important point, but... Please change the text or background colors for higher contrast. I'm young, with semi-decent eyes, and white-on-light-blue and brown-on-tan are difficult to read.

I guess the argument would be that big companies already have people with extensive domain knowledge who are deep in the maze, and can afford to be stealthy because they already have 1. History, 3. Theories, and 4. Direct Experience.

An important note is that users don't gain down vote ability until they have ~500 karma, but have the ability to flag stories before that (maybe even at account creation, but I'm not sure).
