There was a similar situation with CDs where you could overprovision data that existed past the technical limit of useable range. I think that's was utilized in NINs Year Zero ARG experiment.

Alcohol is a CNS depressant. This doesn't mean it makes you feel 'depressed', but rather that it dulls some sensations, which can include anxiety (it may also cause mood swings that reverse this affect).. so yeah when it wear

I disagree... In the article, the writer says, "If I share an article on Reddit I feel anxious for a week".. Clearly he was in the wrong line of work. I'm not saying it wasn't worth sharing in self-care, but I don't

Well, you can be technical about it... The fact is that this is unethical behavior and should absolutely be called out and made more visible.

During the famine, ireland produced way more for/potatoes then it required to feed it's people; they were just taxed to all hell. Currently the US produces about twice the calories it requires. There are so many calories produced

Well that is a very interesting question, isn't it? Certainly I believe we can agree that if you program am application or service to act as though it were conscious, that doesn't actually make it conscious. I believe part of yo

I can't help but honestly feel that tech/AI will always be fundamentally without will/motive, and that all the sci-fi stories about 'uploading consciousness' or sentient tech will never truly be actual conscious ent

How does this compare with Estonia and their use of public ID numbers? I just know they don't consider their ID numbers secret the way SSNs are in the US, yet they use them for everything. How do they prevent fraud and ID theft?

Also, how long was it #1, and how much meaning should be ascribed to that? I visit HN typically several times a day, and haven't seen that blog before.

I mean, even if the effect is significant, it might just come down to the fact that for one person the activity alleviates stress and for the other it does the opposite. Sure, the physical activity is good for circulation and cardio/st

JEDI aside, I feel like Azure has grown in leaps and bounds... meanwhile AWS has rested on its laurels because they were the first major cloud and so many people adopted them early and either are stuck or in denial about where Azure is at.
