+1. Totally agree. Nowhere in the article does anyone seem "surprised". If you are going to project a response on the scientists it would probably be relief or concern.

So at full rated output power, 5.5kW, it can supply that for 12 minutes (60*1.1/5.5), right? That doesn't seem to be much capacity. Running at say 1kW output you aren't even going to run for an hour. EDIT: The article must be

In everyday use in this part of the world you never hear the word near-sighted. In Australia and I think a lot of other British English countries, short-sighted is the plain English term for myopic. (But the thing is most of us know that th

Sorry, but in Australian English, those with myopia are always referred to as being short-sighted. The metaphor, having lack of foresight, is also referred to by the same expression.

And I just found this very recent biopic on Doug. Just watched 10 minutes so far, but it looks to be really well produced, with interview snippets with Alan Kay, Vint Cerf amongst others. https://youtu.be/_7ZtISeGyCY

I'm in the process of researching to replace my swimming pool pump. My current one nominally runs at 2850rpm and has a nominal power consumption of 1650W, but I think I measured it at around 1100W. I imagine the maximum load is when st

I imagine the "deep" aspect is that it seems to be well below surface waves that seem to reek havoc on other projects. That depth is still pretty difficult to service as install without pretty sophisticated planning I would think.

It's interesting how we detect patterns in words. I wanted to have some fake plant names. This generator creates perfectly plausible names. https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/magical-plant-names.ph...

Cheap pianos don't age well - quality ones do. I sold some shares (stock)in 1993 for around $8000. I bought the best PC I could get with about $3500 (a 488DX66 with 8MB RAM...). I bought my wife a 30 year old Yamaha U3 upright piano fo

If it is an organic compound it is probably going to breakdown in years or decades. (Crude oil spills AFAIK only have a relatively short term impact). Most plastics seem to take centuries before they are back to something that is less notic

Maxwell may have won the tape print ad war, but TDK definitely buried this TV ad in my brain in the 80's. (I think the singer is Aussie, so I wonder if this was also a global commercial). https://youtu.be/W_cH8Wi0Ggo
