In my Former Soviet Country, this is a fairly common thing that (sensible) older generation intellectuals remind to Gen Y/Gen Z lefties. There was a short period of "dude, communism is quite hip" in some circles roughly a dec

I like to guess the "timeless-ness" factor of a book. If a book seems to have it, I'm likely to shelve it to build a library for my kids. Filter question: will this book have any value in 10 or 20 years from today? A late the

After having read some of the comments on Pascal here -- fellow HNers, what's your view on Pascal as a teaching/introductory language in 2023, for children aged 10+? Mostly thinking of FreePascal, but TurboPascal in DOSBox/Fr

Thanks very much for this! Dillo used to be more or less my main browser for quite a while, mostly with all images and CSS turned off. Its combination of quick GUI element toggling + config file for fine-tuning is excellent. A very versatil

This is exactly what happened to our son (10yo) as he went through the chapters. He would start seeing everything around him (and, particularly, in his Minecraft environment) in if-else statements, etc. It was quite fun to observe.

Is the FreePascal IDE essentially a clone of the TurboPascal IDE, or does it have any shortcomings?

Oh, I don't recall anybody ever explicitly saying something like this to me. Makes me happy for sure, especially considering that I actually did not learn the English language at school back in the day; we had German. Many thanks! Thos

Thanks very much for this book reference. Our son (10yo) is learning to code and after quite a bit of research (and to my own huge surprise), I've pointed him to QBASIC (via DosBOX). I'm just a hobbyist, and approaching 40, so may

Yeah, I had a similar script of my own, utilizing the fact that EPUBs are essentially zip files. Thanks for sharing yours. I'm a great fan of your scripts for text-only browsing etc.

I have done the same, very probably with the same browser you're using (links). Just curious, do you handle images (or graphs) in EPUB files in some specific way? Mostly, ebooks are perfectly fine to use without images, but not 100% of
