In the UK, "the Government" is a phrase more akin to "the x Administration" (where x is the President) in the US; although technically it includes the parliamentary majority as well as the executive.

It's probably a short-term social phenomenon. We don't bother detecting mathematical output from calculators or spreadsheets; we just like that folks give us the right answer, even if they had easy tooling to produce it. However,

I always imagined a mountain climb. So steep learning curve would mean daunting, high effort, high "drag" (gravity), but if you undertake it and push hard, you do, in fact, gain tons of utility (rather than proficiency per se) in

Yes and no. A pet parrot repeats what you yourself trained it with, or at least the people in the residence. ChatGPT was apparently trained on the web en masse; the parrot can speak back with the sum of human knowledge, to some approximatio

> I can get something done in Python much faster Take a look at the CL libraries PY4CL, PY4CL2, and CL4PY. I use the first one for some things. It can be useful to bridge over to Python for something and come back with the answer.

The player (on a Roku at least) definitely needs work. You can't say "I watched this" (perhaps elsewhere) and mark an episode watched. Frustratingly, if you accidentally play two seconds of an old episode it insists that you

APPEND is for concatenating two lists. If you're trying to add a value, then if your NIL is already in a variable, use PUSH to add the value (to the front). This will build the result list in reverse, so you can NREVERSE it at the end.

That was my thought as well. With sufficiently advanced computing and world modeling, we wouldn't use DNA to bring back real creatures, just high-fidelity digital ones, complete with a simulated environment that suits them.

If donations is a factor, it would be more logical for politicians to consider the likelihood of future donations rather than past ones. In fact, if the chance of future donations is close to zero, there is a certain appeal in making an exa

One would have to check that particular example, but in general, there are buildings in SF and NYC where the HOA fee covers amenities that are, frankly, hotel-like. Staffed gym with climbing wall, 24/7 valet parking, food can be sent u

I think what I'd really like is some way to expand format strings into McDermott-style code (and ideally vice versa). I think CL-PPCRE gets this correct for a similar domain: regex strings. The library is not pedantic about whether you
