Sometimes column stores are really the way to go. For massive RDF storage, they offer orders of magnitude improvement in query speeds when compared to the best row-store DBs. The C-Store project at MIT is cool. Here's a good summary: http:

Also, the use of "said" allows for subtlety of dialog that would be lost with more trite words such as "exclaimed" or "retorted". Joyce takes it to an extreme: only a dash separates dialog from narration.

During my last year of high school, I remember asking the college guidance counselors if there were other alternatives to going to college. They told me my only other choice was to join the military. Clearly something needs to change.

I'm stoked on your concept and loving the logo. Vertical spacing overall should be a tidied and made consistent. Maybe push the second line of your logo up onto the first line to compress the header? Also I'd suggest you put some more const

This reminds me of some of the spam filtering algorithms I've read about. You'd think that categorizing spam based on keywords (or sender IP, etc) would be useful, but machine learning algorithms can pick up more subtle nuances of language

Agreed, I started bicycling regularly about two years ago, and it has vastly improved my overall health, focus, and drive. Getting sick in the winter used to be the regular course of things -- I'd be knocked out for about a week or so with

I agree that the original post lacks in critique. On the other hand, he does provide a great place to start from when considering CSS frameworks. By laying them all out on the table, we should be able to have a conversation around them to f

What frameworks do other YC folks use? I've been running with Blueprint for a while now and it's working great. The simple 24-column system makes a lot of sense for layouts, but I'm not tied to it necessarily.

My experience with C# suggests it is extremely tied into the Windows world, and for some tasks -- like building a plugin for Internet Explorer -- you may be best of with one of the MS languages (VB or C# being the most prominent). For more

Arrington reminds me a lot of the character of Anton Ego in Ratatouille. A vicious critic. This speech (by Ego) in particular comes to mind: [POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING] "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet e
