He wasn’t hired, he was a part of the development team for a number of years. For all I know, he still is. I still think you’ve chosen a bad example. Gimp’s UI is no worse than Photoshop’s, and that’s not open source.

Is observing that someone conforms to a stereotype the same as stereotyping them though?

It’s odd that you singled out Gimp as they are the only free software project I’m aware of who engaged a professional UX consultant to redesign their UI, and that must be maybe 15 years ago

“I’m so disappointed the tool needs to exist” is not a criticism of the tool, is it? The person you quoted seems to be complaining about the state of the web more broadly

I’d probably describe myself as in the centre, but who knows what that means anymore? I relate somewhat to the parent comment.

I still speak my mind openly in the work place and invariably I find that most people are actually delighted when they realise they can have open conversations with me without fear of judgement. The vast majority of people are still entirel

That’s nothing. I’ve quadrupled the number of cigarettes I smoke a day. Granted, I can’t climb the stairs any more without having an asthma attack, but I think you’ll agree that reducing my risk of infection from hardly anything to almost

Well the internet was a lot more useful, and pleasurable, before targeted ads were a thing. So I’d quite like to know how you came to that conclusion as well

Couldn’t agree more. I also find it rude for other people to presume I need to be told what to read. And this regardless of the fact that downvoted comments are often more nuanced and interesting than the content surrounding them

It's not a tautology at all, it's the patently obvious. The only business reason they have to not apply for the licence is that they won't have any profits left over afterwards. Ergo they aren't very profitable, unless

It's easy to say that with hindsight. At the time it wasn't so clear. Well, perhaps it was after the general election in '17. But then it was also clear that the political situation was very unstable and could change again

I think the point of parent's comment is that hardly anyone in the UK has heard of N26, so perhaps we shouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's all due to Brexit. Let's be honest, if they had a market here worth saving,

No, they were talking about doing that or leaving without a deal. That message didn't really change until the Chequers speech in July 2018, when no deal was essentially taken off the table.

Do they have a 100% track record of preventing viruses from being installed on your system? Once your system is compromised, it's compromised. There's nothing the AV can do. It's the OS (and to a lesser extent user practic

And this is why I didn't buy a Pebble. I'm basically not prepared to buy a smart watch at this point unless its software is open source. Otherwise you're completely at the mercy of the company's (mis)fortunes. Incident

I'm not disagreeing with your point, but your analogy isn't good. The best heart surgeons actually are the ones with the highest failure rates because they are the only ones prepared to take on the riskiest operations. I would

So if someone who is anti-semitic believes that Jesus died on the cross at the behest of his Jewish contemporaries, and I also believe the same thing because that's what history has taught me, does that make me anti-semitic? Or is that

Is this the "anti-semitism" to which you refer? Quote: Communism promised to be both morally and economically superior to capitalism, but every attempt became morally corrupt and an economic failure. As it became clear that the wo
