Until the age of recorded commercial music it was considered completely normal to lift tunes, harmonies, anything recognisable, from other composers. In classical music it's generally considered a complement, more rarely a parody. Copy

There is more attention given to the sounds of your family than your work colleagues. It's a completely different kind of distraction. And it's a little bit heartbreaking every time to say to a kid that you are busy right now.

I recently heard an extremely accurate 7.1 binaural recording in a laboratory setting. It was quite extraordinary, but mind that it takes quite a lot of production effort. The day isn't here yet that we can go outside with a pair of mi

Making tools that were expensive or difficult to use, inexpensive and easy to use, means that scientists and students can make use of them to discover and invent the things you suggest.

I love cycling in the Netherlands - where ironically the worst traffic annoyances, for the cyclist, happen to be pedestrians (especially tourists in the central district).

I don't know if I would have made it past the first few hurdles without the Internet. I am self-taught, so the first years were doing as much searching (pre-google, I used Usenet a lot I think), as much as checking books out of the lib

Learn how computers work, some mechanical physics knowledge would be helpful. You need a bit of education in order to rely safely on Googled advice, and if in doubt: don't do it!

I was reading that at 35,000 feet, if the plane loses power then decompression happens and everyone loses consciousness. This seems like a fairly friendly way to meet the end, could you comment on this?

Not in aircraft itself, but a technical interest in why aircraft goes down. When you are in a plane you are not flying you have zero control, and as safety measures are improved by each failure I would say I feel just a little bit safer aft

I fly a lot and am very very interested in what happens in the airspace with large planes. When the plane is found there will also be detailed technical discussion, undoubtedly.
