I agree. Focusing on trying to figure out what your “best idea” is because you want to optimize your time and only work on that is not always the best approach. Sometimes this can lead to procrastination and self doubt because you are not

I would agree that there isn't that much value here but the Virgin Money US loan link was good. I didn't know that kind of loan service existed.

I have found that the easiest way to keep my day job and startup separate is to have a separate laptop for both so that I'm not tempted to work on startup tasks on the company's computer while on the clock or off. Not too difficult to do d

This is a smart move by Google. Hopefully, they will take this model and apply it to an apps marketplace for consumers so that anyone with a Gmail account can add third party apps to their Google account.

I do agree that many times companies try to force their "print" designers into the role of web designers because it's usually cheaper than hiring another designer for the web. Most of the time this causes the project to fail. Either because

There should be a support group for over 30 startup founders that have families, bills, and full-time jobs. My advice to any one trying to do this is to be patient and find a time management system that works for you. Also, get used to the

I just bought one but I wouldn't mind getting another one for free since I'm a prime subscriber. Then my wife and I wouldn't have to fight over the one we have. This would be a good move by Amazon. The only way they are going to keep the i

I've been using YUI Grids for a couple of years and it simplified my CSS. I use it to "reset" all the default rules for the browsers so that things like font sizes and spacing appears uniform between the browsers. Then I use it to set up

You do feel the difference when you are on a Mac. I was using a Windows 7 netbook for a couple of weeks and watched flash on Youtube.com without any issues. Last night went back to my Macbook Pro and the same flash video turned my Macbook

I found that the only times when I had to use a proprietary extension in order to make a page work the same in all browsers was because of IE, and that was probably because it implemented the standards wrong.

Good CSS 3 links and I have to assume that the Webkit and Gecko based browsers will follow suit eventually. In regards to proprietary vs vendor extensions terminology. I would agree that "vendor extensions" would be the official name for t

I have to admit that there are some nice CSS hacks there like the gradient and drop shadow effects but it's dependent on proprietary CSS which should be avoided if possible. If you start to rely on proprietary CSS then you are setting yours

I actually like the command-line interface and prefer it over the GUI interfaces. However, I do prefer the command line for almost everything from managing databases to editing source files in VIM. Git's command-line is a natural fit for t

That's an interesting analogy and I agree with it, but I think the gaming market is more of a niche compared to the general PC and mobile market.

I'm not saying that Apple wasn't successful. Just like they have become the "mind share" (RIM still has the market share) leader in the phone market, they ruled the personal computer market before the PC clones and Windows 95. I can see how

You know I miss the days when Apple (as in Steve) went after Microsoft and IBM with a vengeance. That battle didn't turn out too well for him, but it was fun to watch. It would be fun to see Apple and Google go at it. The history of the PC

That's an interesting solution but couldn't you just resize a 1px grey GIF with the width and height attributes to act as a placeholder? You could also add the dimensions to an ALT and TITLE attributes so they are displayed when you mouse

When you are a startup with no money, I would say buy the .net first only if you could foresee buying the .com in the future when you do have the money. Example of this would be if the .net was available and the .com domain was owned by a s
