That's what I dislike most. It doesn't have the feeling of flow that you expect from a community-content site.

Thanks, I did realize that, but thought to leave it, as I think it makes a point. I just added a bypass in the G+ post, however.

Can we really say that we are individuals interacting with each other, when those that we interact with are only facets themselves? http://bit.ly/P3zyl6

A very good point. Ads are probably toxic to social media in most cases. And worse than the ads, are the advertisers, and what they want.

Thanks. That's definitely some good advice, and stuff to think on. As a user I remember being initially taken aback by subreddits, but it was a brilliant move for those reasons. I'm already following r/michigan, but I'll check r/grandrapids

Thanks for the response. I've always been impressed by the way you've busted ass for these sites and didn't let doing so turn you into a goof. I think as interested I am in what you did, I'd be just as interested in what you decided not to

I never read advice books, but I think I'll make an exception here. If you have a moment, I'm curious, at what point did you feel that Reddit was starting to run on its own steam, and did it happen before or after you expected it to?

This is the biggest caveat with community spaces. Although Redditors can subscribe to subreddits to customize their content, each subreddit remains a community space. IMO there isn't an alternative to heavy moderation when shared spaces are

I'm not sure if it's a recommendation engine they need, but they do need a better way to find subreddits. IMO some sort of a map might work better than a rec engine. Or even just a quick way to see what subreddits another user subscribes to

I have been working at it with http://hubski.com . In short, you choose people to filter content for you based on what they post, and what they share. You in turn choose what to pass on to those who follow you. It's been working pretty wel

Hardly a formula. But sure, even if you consider it to be one, it's not book worthy. It's common sense.

Well, I am sure that some will disagree, but what I've seen, most of what is in self-help books is common sense, although the best wrap it in amusing or counter-intuitive anecdotes. I think self-help allows people to convince themselves tha

Very nice job. I like the 'no need for more government' tack. This is the language that catches people's ears. If I don't understand the issue, my first impression in "Looks like the government is keeping these smart tech kids down." I thin
