It seems like this book would have a pretty limited audience since, looking at Wikipedia at least, TLA+ is primary used at big cloud providers who are writing low-level distributed systems stuff. Can any mortals who've used TLA+ discus

Hooray for domain knowledge! Any process or tool that drags developers out of their cave to learn about the business context is worth its weight in gold. I recommend pretty much any video where James Coplien yells at a room full of develope

I've been looking at this, too, after the recent surge in HN Prolog headlines. You're probably looking for Datalog. The Wikipedia topic has a list of systems that support it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/D

Fair point. My particular experience was at Washington Mutual, about 13 years ago, which was not one of the "best large banks" by any objective measure. I left about a year before the collapse while they were still raking in money

If you're a dev, don't work for a company where software development is viewed as a cost center--you want your work to be viewed as something that brings in revenue. (Learned the hard way when I worked at a large bank.)

I just started my 6 year old on ScratchJr (simplified Scratch for Kindergarteners), using an old Android tablet. I was reluctant to give him more screen time, so we do it after dinner when we'd normally let him wind down and watch a TV

The "F# for fun and profit" site by Scott Wlaschin is a great jumping-off point: https://fsharpforfunandprofit.com/ I discovered it when I was reading a lot about domain driven design, and I stumbled upon a talk b

Amazon offers "dedicated hosts" and "dedicated instances", which you can specify in the "tenancy" field when launching an EC2 instance. I bet that's the stronger isolation that they're referring to. C

That's fair. We're just speaking from two different perspectives: You (and the committee) want the best possible language, and you're willing to wait 5 years to get it. I want to see C++ evolve quickly so I can get some produ

Yes, these sound like good ideas... I'm not a big C++ language nerd and not in a good position to judge whether this is valuable or navel gazing. But, as bystander who only dips into C++ a few times a year, I see these antics and wonde
