I hope this made the author feel better, because otherwise I don't think it did him any good.

They're not talking about that because it's not relevant here. People are reacting to the action he took. The basis for it and the underlying legal structures are a different, or at least tangential conversation. If the house is o

I wrote code on a teletype connected to an HP3000 in the mid-70's, so its always a kick to see that technology mentioned here. Especially when it's described as "really old" which obviously it, and I, are :).

I think it's much easier to get elected than to move the whole government in the directions you've promised to move it during the campaign. This has been demonstrated over and over again. Power is quite distributed in the U.S. pol

But of course none of those things are going to happen, because Congress doesn't want them and the President doesn't pass laws. Congress also doesn't want a moratorium on federal hires, tariffs to shore up American manufactur

This is a good answer. It boils down to what you're paying for. My dad was a suspension and steering engineer at General Motors years ago, and he impressed upon me the number of evolutions these designs go through. The current shape of

Agreed as well. I'd love to see a demo of it in action but I am not willing to create an account just to see if I might want to create an account. The idea of a conversation tree is intriguing, but I think the complexity and comprehens

I don't get the connection. Google's cloud doesn't suffer from more or less lock-in opportunities than AWS for example. Messaging is just a mess. The cloud platform market is quite a different thing.

I don't have any inside knowledge but it probably didn't take that much to _create_ the product. They're getting rid of 50 positions described as mostly business and sales, so they obviously have built up some costs around pu

For various reasons I didn't read as many books in 2016 as I normally do, but "Flash Boys" by Michael Lewis was a standout.

OpenVPN is pretty slick for point-to-point connections into a cloud environment. We run the server side in a docker container on kubernetes and push the cluster services network routes as dhcp options to clients, so developers can work loca

I agree that persistence in k8s is tricky, especially at scale, but at least in our case that doesn't drive us way from the platform. Kube is awesome for services, and if we have to keep a few things on gcloud instances bolted to relia

Thanks, that makes sense. I always thought of the pause container as "being" the pod in the networking sense, so if the pod sandbox simply replaces that I guess they could have just called it a pod.

We use CircleCI. The build container is provisioned with docker/gcloud/kubectl. The repo webhook fires on commit, the image is built, a test entrypoint is executed on the image to run tests. If the tests pass the image is pushed t
