I hate this title. Does "Yelp meets Facebook" really tell you more than describing the service?

Yes. Incredible. With Cosmos, Carl Sagan opened my mind up to the incredible wonders of space and what's out there a few years ago. It's up there with Planet Earth on the scale of seriously remarkable television series. Seeing this contin

Yeah, it's absolutely inane. Marketing front: "The best antivirus software." Damage control: "Don't worry, we're only 10%! Look at someone else, they have more market so it's more dangerous for them to have problems like these!"

I had doubts about whether this was just a misunderstanding or that EJ was blowing it out of proportion, but after reading that in her post, that's all that needs to be said. Dreadful.

Wow. I love AirBnB, and I hate to say it, but that was a completely boneheaded move. There is absolutely no doubt that EJ is very public on this issue. If it's true that AirBnB tried to cover up the problem, then why? Did the founders think

That's cool. How does it work? Is the text message just via email, and the server can accept an email back with a specific command?

Me too. But if it has a password on it, you'll be protecting your password with another password. If it's just an obfuscated, unprotected URL, then you're going to have to store the obfuscated URL somewhere safe. I think this only works if

Maybe a play off of In case of emergency, break glass with hammer and copy private key : a one-time-only retrieval of a private key at some URL, so when your buddy retrieves it, it triggers an email that goes out to you.

Totally serious question: how is Radio Shack still in business? I would love to see them go back to basics, with drawers upon drawers of components and wires and stuff. Seems like nobody likes doing that stuff on their own nowadays.

Right, but even if you did that, wouldn't you still have to store that key somewhere? Also, hi from downstairs!

Well, what's the right way to encrypt this kind of stuff? Even if you're doing some kind of public-key cryptography, you're still going to have to store the private key at some location on the device, to decrypt the password for IMAP/SMTP/w

This is incredible news. Congratulations to Igor and the rest of the nginx team. Does anyone know if the model of open-source with a consulting/premium support company behind it works? I've paid 10gen for MongoDB assistance before, so I kno

Are you rejecting an option just because it's simply bad , or also because there's a better option available? So in essence, you'd reject the idea of charging the mammoth, because you could throw the spear. Likewise, you'd reject the idea

Very cool, good to know. Yeah, it seems like it was a simple endeavor—Redis makes creating a queueing system quite easy. The Ruby `resque-web` interface works and is beautiful[1] with live polling. [1]: http://fhwang.net/image/image/124/4b

Incredibly cool, and thanks for this TJ (as well as your other great work for the Node.js community.) Have you seen coffee-resque[1], a CoffeeScript interface to the Resque queueing system originally written in Ruby? It's similar, and both

This isn't a microblogging service or pet social network. A domain registrar is storing your password in plaintext? Really? Didn't we go over this a thousand times? If I was on Hover (which I considered), I'd transfer my domains immediately

Absolutely agree with this. If you aren't scared, you're being too comfortable and not reaching for heights that are incredibly difficult but radically rewarding.
