When using shadows on text with css you put the users CPU to test, if the users is on a mobile device or slow computer the CPU will work hard to make the shadow look good, so keep that in mind and try to avoid text shadow.

I would do the following: for mobile users Yes, for PC's no. And here is why because when they send more then 140 chars on mobile it becomes 2 messages or more (more carrier fees).

Hi, a good resource can be found on http://psd.tutsplus.com/ but you need to practice practice and more practice, and by the way logos are usually created in a vector program like Adobe Illustrator in order for them to be 'print ready'

I estimate that 10% of the users will go to other sources for information, because this type of ads are really frustrating. If I war an advertiser this is one type of ad that I will not want in my ad campaign, the users try to skip it as so

Yes brk, but I really doubt that half of the 6 million users are active. Then we end up with more then 100 checkins/user. It's like one check in for each working day of the month.
