If you're using completion to verify that a thing has the type you thought it has, then yes, Tern won't help you much. If you're using it to save keystrokes, it certainly will. Slightly related, I'm working on a feature where it distinguish

(I'm the author of Tern -- I'm obviously biased.) It compares very favorably. The Orion approach, as I understand it (I only did some quick messing around with scripted, am not an expert) is very local, whereas Tern tries to do whole-progra

As NuZZ noted, this is the plan. It is already written as a library with a server-like architecture (you send requests and get JSON responses). The vision is to wrap it in a stand-alone HTTP server shim that understands .tern-project files

Should be better now. It was a change I made half an hour ago. Ad-hoc changes to sites that are receiving traffic always do that. [You'll need to hard-refresh to get the fixed code.]

As an aside, does anyone know of a way to install this alongside IE9 on a testing machine? I should have started testing in IE10 months ago, but I'm loath to set up a separate VM for every IE version.

Can you explain the use case where you need need function pointers but closure pointers won't do?

Step back for a second. Your 'criticism' is extremely far fetched -- there's nothing whatsoever to indicate that the three trolls in the picture are supposed to symbolize men in general -- but somehow you did choose to go down that road of

As far as I know, no. You can get SBCL to point out some intra-function inconsistencies through declarations (or, in fact, often even without declarations), but I haven't found a way to make it warn when, outside of function X, I'm calling

For some reason, they didn't write a language mode. Something that just recognizes comments, strings, and keywords would be extremely trivial to do (for example http://codemirror.net/mode/vbscript/vbscript.js )

It is clear that the author hasn't actually done any work on, or even deeply thought about, computer languages. Claiming that a whole field is misguided and hinting at a much superior approach without going into any details is a special for

Which is why there's also a ton of client-side JS being used on http://eloquentjavascript.net . The Haskell program just converts the book from text to HTML.

Which is why dynamic languages are compiled to machine code nowadays. I'm not sure about ActionScript, but both JavaScript and Lua are compiled to machine code when speed matters.

Both ActionScript and Lua are compiled, one way or another. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to have caught on to this an people are still widely referring to all dynamic languages as interpreted. Dynamic typing, garbage collection, and ju
