Exactly. For a moment I considered porting one of my client's app for free but then I read the details. No go.

That's funny and I remember my dad having similar conversations with security system salespeople whenever they'd come around the house. While transitioning from real estate sales to iOS development I took on a few jobs to cover the bills. O

I think I understand your reasoning but in many of these cases the "success" aspect I believe is that despite the failure/discontinuation of the product/company the investors still saw some kind of return on their investment. Though I don't

Agreed. I've wanted @marcomonteiro from the start. That account has never had a tweet since at least 2007. It's the only reason I don't use twitter.

I think another challenge with this approach would be marketing/awareness. With app updates, current users are notified that there is a new version. If you put out a new version separate from the previous one then your existing user base

Like Android devices? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or snide either. I just get a little tired of these arguments when it comes to smartphones and tablets. Every modern smartphone and tablet that I know of comes with some form of "proverb

I'm a Hacker Dojo member, and I can relate. I check into the Dojo on Facebook and I always have a few people who think I'm doing nefarious things like "hacking" people's Facebook account. I've been pretty good about educating people about w

We can blame Hollywood and the media for perverting the word hacker, but jailbreaking and the negative connotations it can provoke is our own fault.

I develop iOS applications. Based on j45's definitions I'd be a consultant/contractor. I have one client right now and they take up most of my time. They're a small startup and it was my first development job in nearly 10 years. The firs

I call myself Marco and many others do as well. I like your attitude here and I'd love to hear from you when the next project calls for someone who can consult or develop an iOS application.

Over the years I've actually done the opposite. I'll read reviews on books I'm interested in on Amazon and go to a local bookstore to buy it. I appreciate the book reviews but I'm impatient and want the book now. The iPad and iBookstore h

prompt() is a built in JavaScript function just like alert(). It isn't Apple specific, that's my point.

Though code is used for test cases I would consider it planning. Especially in a TDD/BDD development process because you're taking the time to define what/how/where/when and why the implementation you'll write after works. Just my $0.02.

It does but it also requires the payee to give away personal information (e.g. routing and bank account number). It also means the payer needs to get this information before they can send money. This is essentially EFT payments but simpli

No it's not. Look at the address bar. He injected that image tag with a value that would cause an error (the x value as opposed to a valid image url) which triggers the onerror javascript to execute. In this case it prompts the user but

I don't see anything misleading in Republic's marketing. I think they've made it pretty clear. This isn't a cellular company, it's a VoIP company that relies on wifi and happens to fall back on Sprint's CDMA network when there isn't wifi

Marketing mishap I'd guess. The tag line threw me off as well, "create NodeJS web apps faster with more energy, using RailwayJS". I don't like the idea of having to exert more energy. Or maybe they mean my app will have more energy.

Based on your other post, you should have quit. You weren't happy and were subjected to slave labor. Forcefully applying more time at a keyboard doesn't make you a more productive programmer. In fact, it makes you sloppy. Despite what "

What about non-collaborators, like clients so they can clone repo's and use the ticketing features but not commit?

I love using GitHub Issues even as a single dev. I give clients read access to a repo and they can log feature requests or bugs they find. As a single dev I'm less inclined to manage and backup a server for my repos. Also, I try to delet
