To add my twitter stream, the site wants read/write access: #Fail. I don't want flavors.me (or any other aggregating service) pitching itself on twitter under my name without my control. The default should be read, not read/write.

I think that criticism is just too easy to make, and suggests a lack of empathy for the realities of the gaming marketplace. Everyone thinks pirates are fun and romantic until it's their stuff that gets robbed.

Agreed - I don't care at all and would buy this game if it was my style. Am I going to give up on having an internet connection at my place, ever? No. So how would this negatively affect me? A little bit of downtime? We all need bathroo

Very interesting. I went to school at UC Berkeley in 2001 and my impression was that the school that spawned the free speech movement had in many ways morphed into a school that limited speech the most, much in the way the author suggests.

I think this is more a "commoditize the complement" thing. Chris Dixon had a good post on this recently: http://cdixon.org/2009/12/30/whats-strategic-for-google/ Friendfeeds are complements to doing things online - it's better for Google

I think you have to think of this utility in terms of how the two social graphs are different. The Facebook social graph is established by people you meet in person and who decide later to send you a friend invite, or people you knew at som

This is some awesome data - I bet we'll be seeing a bunch of social science PhDs based on data sets like these in the next 1-5 years. It will be really interesting to see how this social graph evolves with time, and what it can predict abo

We need rankings to prioritize our activities online - there's too much choice online, and not enough time to evaluate all those choices. So we let google and techcrunch and hacker news do the evaluation for us (by link-graphs, editors, or

No matter what the decision is, there is an army of patent lawyers whose livelihoods depend on the existing system. They will fight the only way they know how (filling lots of lawsuits) for years before business practices change.

Your point might be correct for the majority of the world's population but certainly not for the US...You don't think technology equals wealth, really? I'm surprised to find people who think that at HN. Think about how much would you pay

I'm not saying we don't need $3 or $30 or $300 life saving treatments. If the treatment is worth it - if a living person generates enough wealth to cover the treatment - then of course it's good for the economy. The fact that the polio va
