I'm so relieved to find that at least on hacker news people can still evaluate this situation with reason. Out there it's a witch hunt and Stallman is now a witch. RMS is a great man but sadly has difficulties communicating with t

A better solution would probably be to revoke driving privileges of anyone caught speeding in these areas. Make it very public that this is what will happen. Then do it. I'm sick of irresponsible drivers. If you speed on the railway yo

What's your point? I don't enjoy any of the stuff you mentioned. I don't need it and refuse to work harder to get it.

Thanks for confirming my point. A personal vehicle capable of effortlessly transporting you, four passengers and ample luggage across thousands of miles at 70mph+ isn't even luxury!

Personally I drive the top-spec Civic of 15 years ago. I would never own a current luxury item because I don't think it's worth spending my entire life working for a product that will become normal a couple of weeks after I buy it

That's only OK if you do actually plan to overtake the guy in front of you. If not you should leave enough room for the guy behind you to overtake you. It's really annoying when people sit with no space but don't overtake.

Just get out of your car and tell them if they aren't moving. It's not that scary. I don't get why people don't just get out of their car except in extreme anger. You'd really sit there and type something up to comm

"Attack" is a technical term and doesn't imply malicious intent. Many attacks are accidental or the result of negligence. Some are performed by researchers in purpose but without malicious intent (e.g. the attacker wants to p

I live right next to a major highway construction project. They work in all weathers (or at least try to) and 24 hours a day. 100% male. Funny how nobody is crying foul about this clear case of discrimination. Yet in tech/IT we're

It is indeed ridiculous. I've personally stopped drinking alcohol at all. There is simply no good reason to imbibe a poison that makes me sleep worse and feel worse the next day. I've stopped using other drugs too, but there are s

Don't worry about it. It's easier to just stay in gear than try to compete with everyone else trying to get a car length ahead. If you have to go through such an ordeal every day then reducing stress should be your main priority.

"Diversity" in tech means "we should have programmers with skin colour X or genital configuration Y". But I don't care about people's skin colour or genitals. It turns out people are diverse anyway and that

I don't participate in "stop and go" by positioning my car far back from the car in front and selecting an appropriate gear such that my car will keep rolling with just the engine idle. It means you don't waste any fuel

I've started to avoid using GPS navigation whenever possible for these reasons. Navigation is a valuable skill and using GPS means you don't develop it or forget it. I've noticed a strange phenomenon where people will listen

You just eat twice as much as you normally would on the feeding days. It's easy and exactly what obese people do except they do it every day.

Of course you can get enough calories to maintain a stable weight. Some people maintain a morbidly obese weight with no effort.

Absolutely. There's this popular sentiment today that says anyone can do/be anything. It's certainly popular in tech, but I have limited knowledge of other areas. Talent is becoming a bad word. But I'm convinced that one

Wow... I've been waiting for this for over 10 years now. The previous version was an example of a loss when Flash started to die. Since I don't install Flash any more I've been unable to use it. So glad to see it back.

I've found that many workers in the UK are really not that bothered about work. They'll actually turn down work if they don't feel they'll get enough money for it. Just the other day I was in the garage and they were con
