He clearly did not do ANY real testing, of refined metrics (target people who like his competitor, age range, etc. etc.). So the counterpoint is someone who is killing it on FB ads - and can they blog about it well enough for said 60yr old

I agree, though the example gripe is problematic as the moving industry is largely unregulated. It is full of outfits that are subcontracted by the big movers. Extortion is commonplace (moving truck is near your new home. they stop and call

Can the web app be used on a smart phone? If so, port it over. You will be able to charge for it once you build an audience. Starting free and getting these 1st users to chat about it then later initiate a fee. Or set a decent price for it

As an example, here is a freelance job offer. The project award is less than $500, but it sparks an idea for a niche app service for photographers. https://www.elance.com/j/custom-map-flyover-tour-of-route-ar...

True. And it may not be the exact product or service, but the project opens my eyes to a larger market opportunity.

Love the low tech but engaging concept. I also have a video to share - though I imagine this video does not fall into the shoestring budget category: http://www.mashape.com/howitworks

Also, zip codes may change service areas each year, and so would be necessary to use 3rd party zipcode database and do a spatial join to add city, county, state attributes to each zip code. then import this table to mysql as lookup table.

Wouldn't a one to many look-up table suffice? X County, Y State = N1, N2, N3... zipcodes

Its a great start really. I think the balance is to get a user base, which means they get a lot of value, easily, from your content. Ads may get in the way of this, but I understand your desire to be 'profitable' for a class project.

Please set rule for map pop-ups, only one at a time - open popup closes upon clicking on other pin. Is the Hostgator paid? It is a bit distracting, and that's the line to walk: balancing 'building users' vs hitting them with ads early on.
