I'd like to reply specifically to the Go is supposed to be sub-second GC pause latency part - Go's GC is crazy fast, it pauses for only microseconds, comparable to the socket transport overhead. It can't be thought of as Ja

If the same headline comes up every year then it's easy to construe it as headline-generating pandering. But the facts are, that the earth is warming more and more every year, and if you are under 40 then you have never experienced a

At this price point you are barely paying for the IPv4 address. It will be an OpenVZ container. I had a $15/yr VPS with BuyVM.net for many years and would absolutely recommend them at this price point, except that they have shut down t

This is somewhat of a non-issue, S3 can still be used in a a .torrent file by entering a raw HTTP URL as a Web Seed.

The default renderer Eevee is a GPU-only renderer that works fine on my RX 570 with the FOSS amdgpu driver. You can also run Cycles' CUDA backend with ROCm on amdgpu (somewhat..).

It probably would work. Lots of people use Linux+Wine, but ReactOS exists too as a ground-up implementation with its own Windows-like kernel. Why didn't they just make a well-integrated wine distro instead? and the ReactOS wiki answers

I agree they need to be lazy. This is why it's problematic - Go is only adding generics and not laziness.

An alternate-universe Go with a lot more (& slower) compiler passes could do it, but I don't believe there are any plans to build such a thing. As it stands, this kind of code (where all intermediates have type []T) will run much m

All true, but the dichotomy here isn't between functional and imperative - it's between imperative, and a mix of both.

Piling on here - My impression of your snippet here is that GroupBy() and Values() both construct (potentially very large) temporary arrays on the stack. Maybe Haskell and F# can elide this kind of thing, but it's not something the Go

I don't see details on the API, but it seems likely you could write a libvirt provider for it and use existing virsh tooling (Cockpit / CloudStack / ...).

I do agree - There are some specific pitfalls with curl|bash: (A) the web server may serve different code for curl's user-agent than what you audited by clicking the link in a browser, leading to a false sense of security; (B) if the n

I think "smoother experience on FreeBSD" is a myth - The standard volume manager on FreeBSD is vinum/geom; ZFS ships its entire separate volume manager to the host OS, so you can't use mount/umount to control mounti

Filesystem implementations are normally OS-specific because each kernel has different infrastructure for filesystems. e.g. Linux has the unified page cache, dentry cache etc, and ZFS just ignores all that and ships its own ARC and dnode cac

If you have gifted your code under a FOSS license, then people are going to run it in ways that you don't like. The distributions will take all front-line bug reports and the maintainer will forward them to upstream only if applicable.
